Disney could've easily broken off a little money and put it out there that they were "inspired by" Kimba. But they had to go all in with the "first original story" marketing smh.

Lion king is hamlet not kimba at all. The only thing they have in common is the lion as the main protagonist. Kimba is not even his name in Japan it is leo.

so it got released afterward.

Yeah the guy in video talks about that. He could not find any evidence that Disney did that or when they started development. Another point he made was that those scenes from the kimba movie that are similar are not iconic to manga or the 60s tv show or the 80s one. It looks like kimba was copying lion king in that regard.

even possibly before kimba was on syndication on NBC in the late sixties.
Disney knew exactly who this company was.
