So I recently got into sports betting because of a stupid younger cousin of mine who introduced me to it, and today I can say it has completely crushed me.

I dropped $750 on Miami Heat beating Cavs :( I know, but the odds were crazy and would've raked in over 6k.
I also dropped 1k on Memphis to beat OKC. Again I was lured by the hefty payout.

So to make the money back I immediately dropped 1.5k in the 4th Quarter for Dallas to beat Utah by +7, that didn't happen as Utah almost won :(

Now I am seething, I literally emptied my bank account to win all that back. I dropped 1.6k on Houston to beat Clippers. They lost :sadbron:

Now I'm broke as shyt with $90 in my bank account. I just transferred $50 to my sportsbook account to start all over :(

I have no idea what got me to this. I've never been a gambler in my life. But I made some money early and thought I could keep winning.........

I have 1.8k coming in next week, this time I'll stick with the favourites. I'm getting that money back!! And then quitting for good.

Moral of the story is folks, don't gamble. You may win some, but in the long you you'll ALWAYS lose.
Where were you placing the bets for those kinds of payouts?

The thing about gambling is most people dont have impulse control and they tilt(chase) when they lose a bet or two tryna make back that money that night or weekend.

First thing always go with your gut and never bet on a game just cuz its on tv or on the board. When I first started I would win and than chase after a few loses later and than 4 days later i would see a slam dunk game but since I blew my money I would be kicking myself. Moral of the story is sports games are played everyday, week, month you just gotta wait for the right ones to bet on or dont gamble at all.

Last thing never deposit more than 100. I know yall wont believe this but i took a 50 deposit to 26k before cashing out 17k before. Its all about impulse control and getting over losses.

Most places give back ur intital bet if u only have one loser on a 7+ parlay bet
I don't think that's the case with Bovada. If I miss a parlay by 1 or 2, they hit me with tough shyt. Not sure about 5dimes or other betting sites.

And also, that math is wrong. If u parlay 4 or 5 teams with $100, ur gonna get more then 400 to 600 back unles the ML is something crazy like -300 for all teams

If LAL LAC and MIL are 3 of the 4 teams, that parlay ain't gonna give you much my man. Each of them boys gon be -500 or probably greater favorites in the first round.

Houston and Dallas in their hypothetical 3-6 and 4/5 matchups... now that would be the key to getting a greater return.

There's no set value, it just goes back to what another dude said earlier that nyggas lack self control.

Start with $20, make some small parlay bets and if you win, consider your winnings as play money (to an extent) to make more bets.

But nyggas get hooked and start making bigger/bolder bets with their play money... instead of staying conservative or cashing out some of it. The thrill of winning.

Then when they bottom out all their play money, they dont want to start again at $20 or less.

betting substantial $ on the NBA is stupid
point totals are too arbitrary and an 82 game season has too many meaningless games
as a result players sit out too many matches or dont consistently play hard outside of marquee games

NFL is a better due to less games bet but because they are professionals the disparity in skill is too low
Also there are not many games to choose from week to week so meh

College football is much easier to bet on
A plethora of teams/matchups to bet on
Conferences and teams have rather consistent identities, making it somewhat easy to be on interconference matchups
Games are very important for bowl game eligibility unlike in the NFL where teams clinch playoff births

College football is the play. I'm like 13-3-1 in bowl matchups i've selected if PSU wins (i took the money line but i think theyll cover)

smh @ thinking you can win it back easily. you're hooked.

one time i lost a bunch & couldn't sleep. ended up betting on tennis matches in qatar at 2 am. didn't know the players & couldnt even find the live scores. i was like wtf am i doing & just quit after that. its a stupid hobby, too much trouble for a small amount of money

Had to bump this ish just to :russ: at this post. Just like previous people have said in this thread. You have to do research and pick the games you have done research on. Don't put too much down! You can play parlays where you are picking different type of sports and win good money with minimal amount of money down. I have won hundreds and thousands of dollars on parlays just putting down 5 to 25 dollars. Hockey games are great to put in a parlay because they increase the cash amount in the payout if you win. You will always lose more than you win, but that is why you always put down minimal money within your weekly or monthly budget. Always know the trends of how a team is moving before you decide to pick them. Look at every factor like injuries, streaks, playoff implications, and etc.

PSU covered. I chose them and Notre Dame, and they came through.

@Shutdown10 what do you think about Cincinatti -5 and Utah -7

Both those runlines look questionable to me because both those teams have played easier schedules than the teams they are playing in their bowl games. If the points were lower, then I would go with those picks because where its at it can go either way because Cincinnati and Utah's wins on their schedule are not convincing enough. The Auburn -7 and the Georgia -5.5 look safer to me.

cinci is -7 but i teased -5. i also teased utah -3 on one of my parlays. i agree with your analysis though. I also took Auburn and Baylor in diff parlays

That being said the ACC has a lot less parity than the AAC to me. Ill take a Cinci that has managed to hold Memphis offense below 30 pts and hang tough against them, while beating everyone else in their conf against a Boston College that hasnt had a decent win all yr.

I really wanted Cinci -3 but i couldnt find that on my sports book. I like Baylor > UGA due to their ability to score. UGA has struggled all year on offense. I like > 41 pts there too.Its a 3 or 4 point game to me if UGA wins. 27-24 type game
