Whats the point in marinating on things that aren't reality, and dead traditions?

Many in the black community don't have fathers, and those that do often times don't have fathers who can afford to pay for a fancy wedding. Plus wasting your fathers retirement money on ceremony is the move:mjlol:

So why would there be a concern about spending money on a lavish ceremony to celebrate a loving union compared to buying jewelery to impress others?

Its not just coming off as pocket watching,it is definitley pocket watching lol. But with black people, pocketwatching is only okay when its trendy.

Its okay to tell rappers they are stupid for putting money to their ear since it was a hot line(money which they still technically have btw). But not to tell people they are stupid for starting their lives out as a couple in debt, and trying to put fronts up for their friends that they have the dream marriage based on their material possesion.

But its fine,l'll continue to watch black newlyweds buy expensive cars, pay mortgages on expensive "dream homes" in the suburbs. Meanwhile young white couples are paying cheap mortgages in a hood near you, slowly gentrifying it and bringing up the property value as they push us out and ride off into the sunset into an early retirement:francis:
You can’t use rappers/entertainers/celebrities as an example because they are public figures. That’s what comes with that life, it’s what they signed up for. Their income/net worth/etc are all public information. So it’s not the same roasting Gucci Mane for buying a Wraith as it is roasting Tom for dropping 30k on a wedding.

If you can afford that wedding then hey, by any means. But if you out here scraping every penny or god forbid, taking out loans to fund your wedding then you’re doing it backwards. White people go in the red doing these fukk shyt type of moves and black people follow right behind them, only the ramifications are that much magnified because the system is simply not set up for us to bounce back that easily :yeshrug:

Those chains don't have much value I heard. Maybe not. I heard they are hard to sell for anything close to what u bought it for

Obviously there is something timelessly romantic about weddings, and whether to have one or not, would have to be a mutual decision. I'm not interested in rituals, or religious based ceremony, or these sprawling events with dozens of people, when really, there's only a few people I would even want to attend. I would rather just have a small private party at a dope location, say the vows and that's it.

As far as finance, I believe the average wedding cost is 25,000, which many people go into debt for, which is extremely financially irresponsible, also kind of disgusting in a typical American consumerism way.

Last point, there is also something kind of ominous about wanting a picture perfect, gaudy, massive wedding, it's an illusion that likely won't hold, one way or another.

How many people are buying 100K chains vs how many black people are overspending on things that they believe are tradition when it comes to marriage, but are misguided:jbhmm:?

I feel like there should be more concern when black couples fall victim to one, alot more than black people fall victim to the other:martin:

Gucci Mane is not above roasting, but I'm only using him to make a broader point. His earning potential is much greater than the average persons.

Celebrities are perfect examples to use because they are public figures. Gucci and Keyshia are a reflection of the misguided mindset black couples have accross the nation in America. He just is lucky enough to continue to be able to be able to bounce back financially after stupid purchhases like these so far. But the mentality itself is what is dangerous in the community.

Again, this goes back to having a father in the household or mentor to help guide the youth, whether one is making foolish purchasing decisions or planing a lavish ceremony.

Im still trying to figure out how you are comparing buying high priced items to a family based ceremony like a wedding that is supposed to be a one time event shared by all loved ones....regardless of the cost..

Im lost, Marriage is a lifetime investment with many good returns on said investment if you chose correctly.

A chain depreciates in value, and you can actually lose your life over it..

Im not sure what your angle of approach is here.
