While its true hip hop is the only genre where you see younger fans "shytting" on the artists who came before This idea that most younger fans from other genres are actually out hear bumping shyt from 30 years ago is a joke:laff:

The average 17 year old rock fan does not give a fukk about the Beatles like the average 17 year old hip hop fan does not give a fukk about KRS one. The primary difference however is the rock fan aint gonna disrespect the beatles and say their WACK , he's just gonna say I don't mess with their music
Word. Even the artists dont either. You just won't hear Jack White or The Black Keys say fukk Muddy Waters lol
This is thread is exactly why I feel in 15-20 years...hip hop will be mostly white rappers
while we will have moved on to create another new genre of music. Looking at history, we're about due lol
Hopefully this time we will be more protective of it.

Krs did not get ate

From a lyrical standpoint, of course. However, while KRS won the battle, Nelly definitely won the war. KRS tried to derail Nelly's success train by trying to get him outcasted from the game, only for him to go on and reach non-stop success. Basically, the casual fan didn't give a shyt what KRS had to say, and Nelly used that to his advantage. Real hip hop heads agreed with KRS, but to everyone else, he came off nothing more than a washed up and bitter hater.

Who cares about casual fans? Or everyone else? Most importantly, who cares about Nelly?

This is from your standpoint. However, let's not act like both hardcore heads and casual heads alike didn't pay attention to this beef at the time. Also, at this time, Nelly kinda was a multi platinum artist all over the radio so it's safe to say that a lot of people cared about Nelly actually:comeon:

Long story short, KRS disagreed with what Nelly stood for and his success in the game, wanted him out:camby:, only for shyt to backfire.

I don't think any casual fan paid attention to the Nelly KRS beef. They likely didn't even know about it.
Nelly sold records, Vanilla Ice sold records. Macklemore sold records. Who cares?

:what: You're missing the point completely

Breh, you stated that no one cared about casual fans, yet KRS even went so far as to try and get Nellyville boycotted. He obviously tried to convince both sides of the audience to stop fukking with Nelly and the exact opposite happened. I cannot break this down any further. :snoop: You know KRS was on a mission, and it failed. Stop it.

I dont take Jamar's message as one of exclusion or what not. He gave his opinion on the state of hip hop :yeshrug:Hell, all these dudes need to recognize the history of rap. They aren't the first one with a story, or the first to rip a beat.

I agree with you that KRS did attempt to get Nelly boycotted and failed miserably with casual fans. It was a poor choice of tactics on his part.
I never said no one cared about casual fans. I said who cares about them? i.e. - as a judgment. I.e. - the opinions of casual fans shouldn't matter in these discussions. 99.99% of rappers care about casual fans because they are trying to sell records. But as true fans - the fact that 11 year old Becky in Idaho bought Nellyville holds no weight.
