Fact is during the recession when unemployment rose violent crime for all groups continued to drop.

Chicago is no different than Chicago during alcohol prohibition. The criminal gangs have lots of money on the table and they settle their problems via violence. Get rid of the war on drugs and you'll find drops of violence in LA, Chicago, New Orleans, DC, NYC, and other major cities and cities on known drug distribution paths.
