That's just one of MANY grieviences artists have had against LYOR since the mid 80's, when Russell Simmons hired him to help wrangle Def Jam out of it's debt to CBS as well as manage the affairs of Run DMC, the Beasties and others under RUSH MANAGEMENT since he did start off as Run Dmc's tour manager

but these are his WORST OFFENSES:


5. Influenced Russell into creating the Rush Management division which was the biggest most historical conflict of interest music management deal in hip hop history….
Rush Management was basically an extension of Def Jam managing Def Jam artists as well as controlling various deejays such as DJ Chuck Chillout of Kiss fm whom help push many Def jam acts i.e (P.E, LL COOL J and others) in violation of FCC guidelines and payola statues

6. Caused the internal and eternal rift that separated longtime friends and founders Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin , by making Rubin seem irrelevant and outdated in terms of conducting the business affairs and creativity of the def jam brand i.e (artistic development was officially DEAD when Lyor had his way).

7. Disrespected Chuck D. by having Def Jam BLOCK Public Enemy from releasing their album on the net, in spite of P.E not being sought to renew their contract and lack of DEF JAM support for PE’s latter releases…

I recall many years ago submitting content to an editor of an urban magazine whom basically WASN'T FEELING MY "STUFF"...

then take a meeting with her just last year listening to this same byatch BRAGGING AND BOASTING about this brilliant WHITE AUTHOR who was submitting the SAME MATERIAL I was writing about several years prior!!!

I got so gottdamn frustrated I cussed her out at that damn meeting

not to mention all THE MEAN MUGS and MENACING LOOKS I GOT FROM BROTHERS AND SISTAS once I stepped in their office or we had a meeting

two significant reasons

1. CONTROL ......... Def Jam still felt that inspite of their unwillingness to promote the P.E brand much less push their forthcoming LP in 1999 called "There is a Poison Going On"....they didn't want them to walk away with that master recording which they felt THEY were entitled to along with the fact that Chuck D. was one of the first to start merchandising the P.E logo, brand which was recognized worldwide ..they couldn't let that just walk away out of their grips....it would be like De Ja Vu when the BEASTIE BOYS jumped ship to Capitol Records, and Def Jam had to not only explain but come up with bread to their parent company CBS/SONY to cover the breach.

2. FEAR..........keep in mind this was 1999 ...and Napster made impact in 99 because it was the first peer to peer software sharing site to make a significant impact on the music industry and downloading in general and also gave artists independent and major label acts the incentitive to take affairs to their own hands by reaching their target audience more directly without the traditional music distributor in the way........P.E hopped on this opportunity by offering to SELL THIER ALBUM WITHOUT DEF JAM consent on their own website....LYOR COHEN aka DR. NO ......stepped in to try to block this from happening...simply because it was something not only DEF JAM feared but every label would have to soon realize that TRADITIONAL RECORD DISTRIBUTION IS NOT NECCESARY if an artist became proactive with the INTERNET

Chuck doesnt get the proper recognition for being the founding father of the digital era...I remember back then when cats had there head stuck up they ass and couldnt wrap there head around the idea of DL albums and songs off the nets...he is a true pioneer in every sense...Stuff ur seeing today he was predicting 20 yrs ago
