I think that's a dope idea my friend :salute:
yea, there's nothing I hate more than dropping money down on debts. and for the longest time it just made me angry.
Now as I am a bit older, putting that money down, and seeing those debts dwindle away is actually very rewarding and quite satisfying.
I no longer look at my bank account like :sadcam:
I look at my debts going down like :smugfavre:

Daamn sounds like you are persevering after some tough times. Its always great to hear that(not what you've been though, just that you are able to pick up and carry on) that shows strength and determination.
Plus going for your(second?) degree is pretty amazing too.

The key to financial happiness is just finding what is best for you. Alot of ppl saying owning a house is the be all end all of everything. But realistically sometimes its just not a smart move to jump in to a house just for the sake of one.

Sounds like you are on your way. Keep at it, keep that credit lookin :win: , finish that degree then you will be well on your way to financial security..

I am 100% a fighter, no doubts about it! I was literally born fighting (I was a micro preemie) and I will fight against anything trying to stop me from excelling. Dad nicknamed me "tank" after my stroke and said "you just roll over anything trying to slow you down" which is true. Haha!

Yes, this is my second time attending college but the first time I took a break to help my family out because we hit hard financial times so I put school on hold to work full and part time, keep my family going until my dad was re employed. He had a manufacturing job for 28 years and that company shut down. So I worked 12 days straight, 2 days off for almost 2 years. Then I had the stroke and my entire life changed again. Acquired a brain injury, literally nothing has been the same. I had to quit my job to go back to school full time, which is where I am now. It's those early building days and sacrifices along with my dad using wisdom, that helped me take care of me.

I'm here, I'm so determined and I will rise to the top. It's a long climb, but I don't know how to quit.

Thank you!!

I also forgot to say that I agree with you about financial happiness being finding what's best for you. Yes! I do want to own a home, solely for the sake of having a home base. Financial happiness for me is having the funds to do what I need, and some of what I want. I need the security of a home base where I can retreat (I'm an introvert) to my quiet space. Even better if I have a family to share it with. My heart's desire is to travel and make life good for someone else, because I have the financial means to do so. I really want to invest in orphanages and I have a friend doing work in Haiti. That matters to me! But I can't help someone else when I can barely help myself.

The degree I'm working on now (mass comm major, digital media minor, and looking towards front end web development) will allow me some flexibility and since I'm already cognizant of financial matters, I'll be able to put my wages to good use.

It will all come together.

Something I'm starting this year... maybe something to try:

I plan on paying all of my bills in the first half of the year. I make good money (a hair under 6 figures) and so my pay cycle is usually one check for bills with money left over and then one check for "savings"/ spending. What I've decided to do this year is budget out all of my bills into each check so that the second 1/2 of the year I'm completely liquid. I created a new bank account and put all of the bills for Feb already in there, and the ones that I can pay early (car note, verizon, insurance) I've already paid twice for the year with only one payment due. My verizon has a "surplus" amount on it and my insurance will be done by sometime in April (normally done in October).

I'll re-up this later in the year but the idea of having everything accounted for by June and then being able to make the rest of my money for the year with no bills seemed like a smart idea. I hope this helps someone :manny:

Watch the money you be spending on women...I haven't been dating or anything for the past year and in that time I've been saving an additional $300 a month compared to when I was always going out with women

LOL!!! it's true

i've also cut my lunches down to under $7 a day...primarily can do lunch for $4

i use to easily spend $50-$85 a week on lunch, now spending $30 in 2016

$200 a month savings

mostly been doing exercises so lunch in take has been soups, salads, light lunches, with snacks and drinking free water.

  • I have been cutting down on ordering out at work and at home, mindless purchases of junk food or impulse buys, so far saving an average $400 a month.
  • on a side note, unlike other electronics, camera lenses hold most of their value even years after coming out.
  • I also wrote an ebook for sale on amazon. I don't make much money from it, but a good $50 to $70 a month takes care of my light bill.
  • Learn Excel!!! you'd be surprised how important Excel is in a lot of companies. a big help when applying to jobs.
about to try out acorns
