I promise you I thought of this exact scene when I read that Arteta quote yesterday. :scust:
Glad he fessed up to being a coward that was a rare glimpse into his psyche

No wonder every big moment involves him freezing up

Now if he played MLS in midfield or at least rotated him with Spanish midget we’d be so clear of city

It’s an indictment on him that it took this long

I had this conversation with my friend a while ago. All the successful managers who played professionally, were either defenders or midfielders. It’s rare they were strikers.

Why? My theory is that defenders/midfielders have a different tactical understanding of the game. That’s not to take away from strikers but their game is based more on instinct (which is difficult and can’t be taught).

Unless somebody in here can prove me wrong, my theory applies to 90% of successful managers, if not more.
Fergie
Dalglish
Cruyff
Heynckes

And in the modern era
Klopp
Inzaghi

I want to say Fergie was a forward, could be mistaken though

That's a good list but didn't Klopp play most of his final years as a defender?

And I wouldn't put Inzahgi in that list of sucessful managers yet.
Yes i think you are correct there but he started as a striker

And with Klopp as well i think he was successful because of his personality and the fact players loved him and would run through a brick wall for him not because he was some tactical genuis like Pep

Barcelona: La Masia grads straight in the 1st team

City: Pep will give academy players (Lewis, Oreilly etc) a chance to beat out big money signings

Arteta watched Rice / Zubi get worked to death and refused to give Norgaard or MLS a damn minute

:snoop:
