Not "wear a condom" "don't drink and drive" type of advice. They've heard that. I'm talking about real...REAL LIFE advice that you learned the hard way.

I have a good friend who is 24 and regularly depressed and more so...feels lost.

Here's a secret for those of you who are too:

Nobody else knows what they're doing either. I have a very solid career but I am just going with the flow...regularly get the feeling I've fukked or am fukkin up...and feel lost. The most directed and driven people you know in life are actually lost like you too. Nobody decided "I'm going to be X" in hs or during college and then...did it...and if they did they have second thoughts and doubts every day. There is not a way you're supposed to be going, or a place you're supposed to be at a time in your life. Don't fall into those constructs. And don't get disappointed because you're not "there" yet.

I could continue but I'll pause there. Add on

Increase your contribution to ur retirement plan every year esp if u get a raise. I get matched up to 8%, and I'm putting in 12%
Logged into fidelity earlier in the month and :noah: u don't even miss that money and you probably would spend it on dog shyt anyway.

I also save my bonuses every year, or try to.

Whenever u are trying your best to accomplish something and it seems like u just cant get your goal accomplished....always remember the crackhead. The crackhead could wake up broke with no money and no crack in the morning...But somehow...someway...By the end of the day...The crackhead gets that crack. Now the obstacles that the crackhead had to go thru just to get that crack is irrelevant...They were determined by the end of the day to achieve their goal and they achieved it. You too can acheive your goals with determination, dedication and discipline ....never forget the drive of a crackhead.

Being money wise is #1 on the list, dudes spending 30% of their salary on nonsense will regret it when they turn 30. Even if you average 40k/year in your 20's, that's 320k. No reason not to have 50 - 100k when you are 30 years old.

#1A don't be an underachiever or a slacker, eventually that work ethic will be part of your DNA. Be the guy who will do every and everything so you can be well rounded. I see dudes avoid tasks they hate. Big mistake.

I'm not 29 yet, but close enough.

My piece of advice for those entering corporate America. Show no loyalty to any company, remember that you work for yourself first, the moment a company decides they no longer need you, they will lay you off with no remorse, so you might as well beat them to the punch before they do.

-the first 3 months or so of a new job/project is when you should ask as many questions as possible, and you should probably take notes because ur not gona remember shyt
my workplace is different but generally speaking you get about 3 months on a new job where you're allowed to be annoying and people are willing to help u out. after that period, you're gona look like an a$$hole if you ask questions you should've known the answer to a month or 2 in.
-any free training your job offers, take it. don't think twice
-always be on the lookout for new opportunities at other companies, becoming complacent or comfortable in a job or company is :camby: you could hinder your earning potential and possibly miss out on learning new skills/processes by staying in one place
-always learn new shyt and try to incorporate it to your job if you can.. for instance, i'm not a developer but i learned java because when i was a pm, i had to work with developers and it's virtually impossible to be successful doing that line of work and not understand wtf these indians are telling you, and this is the language they use. i'm learning pig and hive even though i'm not using it now, because it may become useful in my next assignment.

edit- go to the gym, because most people get :flabbynsick: from sitting at a desk all day long :scusthov:
