Making this thread cuz I'm concerned with how many of y'all are depressed and crying out on here :to: meditation really does work. It's a least worth a try, I'll share my own story:

2010-2011 was rock bottom for me :wow: I didn't wanna kill myself but I definitely wanted to die and would wish sometimes I would get in a car accident just to end the misery. Honestly I probably would've considered suicide if it weren't for my sister being murdered in '06 and knowing the pain it brought my family KNOWING someone took her away from us. I couldn't do that to them, especially my mom.

Basically, I felt like a loser who would never have a shot in life. I was only 22 :snoop: my family couldn't get thru to me, they helped me get into counseling and even they couldn't get thru to me. I know the feeling where no matter what someone says, it doesn't mean anything cuz you're already empty. Some way or another I got into meditation and with this group session and it kinda became like church for me (on Sundays)

That was the BEST DECISION I EVER MADE :damn: Partly because the people leading it were really good but moreso for the chance to just BE. The dangerous thing with depression is, it's almost always on your mind. You're always thinking about xyz or do at some point in the day and the shyt just pulls you under and drowns out everything else. With meditation you give yourself a chance to stop thinking-- about school, relationships, your career, whatever it is and just be... Breathe... Feel how alive you really are. No matter what thought creeps into your head, you recenter and refocus on your breathing. Eventually I started coming to certaim realizations during it and began to love it. My worst moments or days became the best times I would meditate and I'd look forward to the chance to get it in like :banderas: :ahh:

Ultimately I realized how pretty much everything I was depressed about was really bullshyt, how young and alive I was and how much potential I haven't even tapped. Once I defeated it, I knew I could never feel that low again :ohhh: I literally climbed my way out from the bottom. Life isn't perfect but what I've managed to fo since is nothing short of amazing. There's still some down times and moments of disappointment, but I know that just means I'm too focused on the negative, and I'll reel myself back in with some mediatation that day or for a brief period. I don't do it daily anymore, but honestly should-- Just to center myself on the day and my objectives. Everybody should. You can still pray and/or whatever else you do but trust me, there's NOTHING like reaching and finding solutions for yourself from within :salute: I'll share a few ways to practice and habits that are meditative without most realizing in the next post.

There's so much pressure on you to be a tyc00n by 25 but when I see people in their early 20s depressed I tell them they have so much time to be successful if they make the right decisions. Your 20s are going to be your struggle years but those years from 19-25 were the best of my life and I struggled immensely. And I will try meditation. My mind is plagued by too many thoughts.

  1. Basic meditation: Find somewhere quiet to sit, close your eyes, and just focus on your breathing. I like to start with a few deep, deliberate breaths to get settled but from then on just breathe naturally and bring your attention to your breaths. Thoughts will come to mind (My show comes on tonight, Oh shyt! I gave so and so money last week, has he paid me back?! :wtf:") but when you catch yourself focusing on them, just go back to your breathing. Eventually you get to a trance-like state or get that sense of relief you're looking for. You can start short at 3-5mins but I like 15mins or more.
    1. Once you've gotten this one down you can expand to focusing on your entire body. The sensations you feel sitting, the sensations of your clothes on your skin, your heartbeat, etc.
  2. Walking meditation: This one is deliberate in your breathing. Take a step, breathe in. Take the next step, breathe out, repeat. Again bringing all your focus to these two things. The first time I did it I thought "this is the dumbest shyt ever" :gucci: but that next week I went to the gym and locked all my shyt in my car and wound up having to walk like 4 miles back to my place (I had a roommate). I was pissed at the start of the walk but midway thru this feeling came over me like "This is the best walk I've ever had my life :wow:" -- It still is, and I wasn't even doing that shyt I was just walking normal :dwillhuh:

Common meditative practices that people don't consider. Think about it, you generally aren't worried about shyt else when you're doing these activities. That's what people mean when they say they "get into a zone":
  1. Weightlifting
  2. Dancing
  3. Running/Cardio

I tried meditation and that shyt don’t work, I’m just sitting there like wtf?

You gotta let go and be comfortable with just being, no matter how weird or stupid it may seem. Those are signs that you're thinking and psyching your way out of it.

I wouldn't put an age limit on depression. It happens on an individual basis according to individual circumstances and how we internalize them. And definitely try it breh, TODAY. It won't lead you wrong. There's a quote I read once that went something like "All of man's troubles come from his inability to sit alone with his thoughts"

Agreed. Meditating has helped me tremendously.
I started off by guided meditation for probably a year and a half. Now I’m able to do it on my own.

It’s crazy how off I feel when I haven’t gotten at least one session in a day.

Being mindful and slowing down is a lifesaver.

I meant more so if they are depressed about being something in life.

I definitely suggest starting off in a group environment or getting into one early on, if possible. That's how I was guided. It helps to have someone else affirm/combat thoughts you may be thinking to yourself, and social dynamic encourages you to be consistent at least once a week or however often.

I meant more so if they are depressed about being something in life.

There was a little more to what I was feeling but regardless, whatever a person's going thru, this kinda rationale is hard to get thru to them if they're truly depressed. They only understand what they're feeling.

You ain't lying. I don't know where I would be without meditation. I used a binaural beats program called Holosync. Be careful with it, because it can wreak havoc on your life if you overdo it :damn:

Yo I recently started meditating and it's the truth.

I just love how clear headed I can get. I forget the past and future, and live in the now.. nothing relaxes me more. Plus it feels good to make at least 5 minutes to absolute nothing except for breathing.

I'm also scared about how many people are saying they depressed tho. The coli turning dark.:lupe:

That shyt is EVERYTHING breh, they just don't know! :blessed: Depressed or not, I'm not sure people realize that we're ALWAYS thinking. Even when we're about to go to sleep, we're usually thinking about something. Even if you're watching TV, you're still thinking. It's good to give your mind a break while still awake.
