Wow. I don't think I've ever read such a personal attack on a public individual before. Check that Michael Eric Dyson's takedown of Cornel West - The Ghost of Cornel West. But even that was somewhat sympathetic though. I understand your reasoning, but it pains me to read such a brutal takedown of another Black man.

While nothing you wrote is factually not true, I do think you could have given Barkley some credit for actions he has taken in the past. The picture your article paints of Barkley

And you also could have put Charles Barkley and his opinions on race in the context of African-American history. There has always been a debate between African-Americans about the best way forward. Starting with Booker T. Washington with his "Cast Your Bucket Down Where You Stand" speech and W.E.B. DuBois response in his essay "Of Mr. Booker T. Washington and Others." But even in that response, DuBois went out of the way to portray Booker T. Washington in a positive light and focus on disagreements on policy rather than attacking the individual. In an ideal world is Charles Barkley the best person to host this show? No. But can this opportunity be used to promote the viewpoints of African-Americans who would otherwise never be given an outlet? Yes.

That's why I am holding judgment until the show airs. They could easily have great Black thinkers and intellectuals on the show explaining why Charles' opinion is wrong and advocating for a position that is more in line with the majority of African-Americans. Perhaps the best way for African-Americans to move forward isn't to silence individuals like Charles Barkley but rather to deconstruct their argument and show them where they are wrong. Millions of Americans share Charles Barkley's views of Black pathology and they are not going anywhere. Ignoring them doesn't work, but having the two viewpoints clash would make for great tv.

Now if it's a simplistic show with Barkley just stating his opinion and making corny jokes, then I'd completely agree with you. But it is very real possibility that it could be a panel discussion ala Bill Maher.

Barkley did that for leeway for the fukk shyt he's about to do and has done to the Black. You see Chuck is like a moral coke dealer, he knows he will be hatEd if all he did was sell coke so he mixes good deeds for his fukked up ones. I would not be surprised if TNT paid him to give them the money. Never put shyt past Turner.

He believed the George Zimmerman verdict was fair and correct; he argued — in the wake of a medial examiner’s ruling to the contrary — that Eric Garner’s homicide was not in fact a homicide; he agreed with the controversial decision not to indict Darren Wilson for the murder of Michael Brown; he believed the cops who pulled over Philando Castile for having a wide nose might have been justified in murdering the man“because in fairness, because some black people out there are crooks;” heshied away from declaring slavery horrific, because — despite an inestimable amount of historical validation — he didn’t personally experience it.

Barkley seemingly has never met a clichéd talking point rooted in the noxious rhetoric of black pathology he could resist.

@Walt Good piece bro major propos keep doing your thing brother:salute:
