Nah, they go to Barkley because they know he's going to give them the soundbites they want admonishing black people.
This is part of it. If you are black and have no issue with criticizing black people in public they will have no problem putting you on TV

Raven Simone
Wendy Williams
Stacy Dash
Barkely
Etc

I just don't believe Barkley is conscious of how out of touch, wrong and ignorant he sounds on a lot of these issues. He's just emboldend by his popularity

You're just wrong. His voice is loud and trumpeted BECAUSE he speaks on the side of white supremacy. This show and forum is going to be another extension of it. He is not fit to speak on racism because he doesn't think racism exists in the first place.

We're saying the same thing..

I'm just using this to show why the need for entertainers to speak up doesn't really benefit movements.

I agree, barkley shouldn't be championed to do something like this because he's an athlete.

1. He's unqualified

2. His opinions always caters to those who don't share his melanin no matter what the issue or subject is.

I wouldn't even mind having guest speakers and having ernie johnson moderate it if they're going to go this route.
Glad you moved on from that "looking for a savior" post angle you were on.

What I'm saying is as soon as tragedy happens you have a large contingent that screams "where are the entertainers that will talk about such and such but won't speak up"

So when Barkely does speak up he is catapult to the forefront cause he has the loudest voice and they know he brings in viewers
You think those screams come with wanting fool entertainers to open their mouths?

really?

I think we are smart enough to know who is who. Why strip us of that?

You are both right.

I actually agree with Crimon here:merchant:

We shouldn't be asking famous people to always speak up.

1. Because they might be c00ns
2. They may not have the knowledge/intelligence
3. Some people just aren't comfortable talking about important issues publicly

so you find fault in folks saying

"hey you with a world wide platform to speak on our plight. Say something!"

for real? That's a FLAW?

One thing you are forgettign is that after the 60s and 70s where black entertainers that were intellectuals flooded the airwaves, the media response since that time was to replace them with those who agreed with their beliefs.

Our criteria with who we want to speak for us has always been fine. Don't point at us.

It's not necessarily a "flaw", but asking rappers, athletes, actors to constantly speak out is assuming they actually know about these issues well enough to speak on it.
Bro....we always asked those of means and intellect to speak for us.

You're turning us into fools who ask any and everybody to speak on our behalf.

It's the media t decision to ignore those of us that bring quality thoughts to the table. Its as if you're blaming us for Barkley being given this platform and not the media for ignoring those of us who are much more knowledgeable than Charles.
