X used to get clown a lot for the drug stuff. People called him a junkie, said he wasted his career etc. I think a lot of people are forgetting that shyt because it wasn't as straight forward as the type of music-related slander Jay, Nas, 50, etc dealt with.

Despite his flaws and demons X was relatable....Wasn't really braggadocios in the same way cats from that era where or overtop with the stunting...Didn't get into beefs, neither did he make claims to being the King or GOAT...In many ways there was no reason for fans to question his status/position...

I remember X catching some flack for the Iyana Fix My Life episode where him and his oldest son had issues. X not willing to give up the drugs for the relationship with his son. But it wasnt nothing crazy from what I remember.

X lived his life without hiding behind a persona or a fake image. His vulnerability was one of his biggest strengths musically and made him beloved.

I may be biased but i feel like Too Short and definitely E-40 got criticism. Or maybe as a big fan of both i just noticed it more.

I would just say there really was nothing polarizing about DMX. He was lyrical enough to not have haters on that front. He made hits, but they werent pop sellout records. So you never had anybody to accuse him of not being real hiphop or soft. He never had a real beef so you dont have fans picking sides against him like with Nas,Jayz and Pac and Big.

Only incident i can remember is i think he said some shyt about the west coast and got some backlash. But it was just a blip because even the west coast messed with DMX and people chose to write it off as the crack made him say it:mjlol:
Was the Kurupt thing really over Foxy Brown?

He had that emotional connection only surpassed by Pac. He was honest and raw to a fault and lived a fukked up life. So you couldn't accuse him of being fake. He wasn't hyped like that are expected to be anything more than he actually was. So you could never say he didn't meet expectations as an artist or as a man. He was :manny: regarding business. So he could never be accused of being a sell out.

For the most part, I think people knew he came from the gutter and generally wanted to see him win, it was clear why he had the substance abuse and legal troubles he had so it was funny. Add in that he was very open and honest, charismatic and pretty funny, there was nothing to hate.

So basically what I’m gathering from this thread is that taking L’s, crashing out, and making bad decisions makes you “real”.

DMX lost so much during the 2000’s that we felt sorry for him.
No, it’s knowing the reason behind it. X was painfully open and vulnerable in discussing his childhood. Who the fukk is gonna rag ona dude who was openly hated and abused by their mother and literally dropped at a group home and abandoned by his mom. That’s some fukked up shyt and you absolutely can understand why a dude would be taking L’s and crashing out.

Crackman X? lol

Maybe it feels like he got less scrutiny than others is for a couple reasons.

- Despite having an extremely impactful debut and follow up album, he fell off fast, like by the 3rd album.
- A lot of the things people did criticize him for were also things you might feel sorry for him for as well.

Between having a fairly short run to and mental health issues that people weren't that keen on harping on and on about I can see how it looked that way.

Let’s stop the fake outrage…

If your dad was DMX, you’d try to get some cat off his clout too.

X had chicks that would do anything he asked.

Name one rapper who can have women crying after reading the bible out loud

So you just gonna ignore the fact that his son was underage getting rapped by adults?

You just gonna ignore the fact that his son is grown today and found that shyt abusive?

Yáll some sick individuals :scust:
