Why black people must stand up to Toxic and Negative Hip Hop

Published on Feb 27, 2014

Prominent African American scholar Dr. Boyce Watkins talks about his recent article about the rapper Rick Ross, who used the name of Trayvon Martin in one of his songs. Dr. Watkins says that the African American community should stand up against toxic hip-hop artists and hold them accountable for the language that they use. He also says that the African American community must work to move forward against the forces that are designed to oppress us.

Artists should certainly be held accountable for what they say, there is room for a balance, the cooperation's are even more to blame than the artists though.

Its hard to defend alot of these idiots because they don't offer no balance or no game to the table. With Face, Pac, Cube, and many others in the past, For every song they had about doing some gangsta shyt, They also had songs that addressed the ills of the black community and weren't afraid of putting out songs challenging the establishment or current event bullshyt taking place in the Black community

Most of These bafoons today bring nothing to the table but tired cliche raps about tricking, hitting the club, fukking hoes, selling dope, and killing one another, Tired trap heavy club anthems, Endorsing Men wearing Mini skirts, and god awful deliveries.

Old? You realize Dr. Watkins is younger than the people who created hip-hop, right? Even Jay-Z is older than him. He grew up in the culture.

And modern hip-hop isn't "your" culture. It's not even really a "culture" anymore.

He didn't grow up in the culture? What did he do in the culture?

He's criticizing it. He's saying the exact same thing people like KRS-1, Rakim, Public Enemy, and more recent smarter rappers have said. His criticism isn't anything new, or anything hip-hop fans haven't already said about hip-hop. He's just giving it a modern update. You might disagree with his words, but saying he's some outsider who has no idea what he's talking about is wrong.

He is wrong..he's not part of the hip hop culture and thus shouldn't speak on it
