Thing is, pharmaceutical companies, and store front clinics made trillions off this shyt for the past 20 years, legally selling over the counter, or through phoney prescriptions.
While pookie sits in the county for 5 years over a few grams of coke, these dudes made billions and at most paid out of court settlements for a few million for suits dealing with overdose while they raked in billions and can vacation in the Hamptons

The death rate for crack was 1 per 100,000 while the death rate for these drugs is 10 per 100,000 which means its 10 times worse now. Crack destroyed the community in a different way compared to this. Like someone mentioned, this is weird because its not fueled by wanting to make money but rather straight up killing.
