Why is being an aspiring rapper frowned upon in the black community?

A lot of time it's an excuse not to do anything real. There are few people that have the talent, financial backing, 'street credit' for all the hood rappers, and time to become really successful. I respect and salute nikkas that are trying to reach their dreams, but it's also smart to have a backup plan just in case you can't build on that. You can't apply at a job after 10 years of trying to get on, telling these nikkas that you were an aspiring artist.

I dont see how someone wanting to do something positive with THEIR life is a bad thing

jus da other day i saw a meme on instagram "if ur stressed because you did bad on finals just remember that someone you went to HS with is still trying to be a rapper"

:why:

:russ:
Because it's pathetic. If it's a hobby okay, but a career choice :what:. I can understand teenagers and what not, but at some point if you haven't made any moves in the industry :usure:. It's actually really sad and disappointing that so many young black males want to be rappers & ball players.

When I was little I wanted to be an astronaut and a firefighter...at the same time. But this thing called growing up happened and I soon traded in my barbies and legos for reality. These aspiring adult rappers with no other goals and plans are still stuck in a Grimm's book with the fairies and wood nymphs.

When a guy tells me he wants to be a rapper:bryan:

Because making it in the rap game is a joke within itself...it's no longer about talent. It's about a catchy ass hook, and/or beat. And you have to assume 80% of the nikkas rapping right now won't even make it to a real studio, while 15% of them will have some local popularity, 4% quite possibly may become a 1 hit wonder, of the likes of Trinidad James, and that last 1% will make it into the game.
u dont have to be a world famous to make a living in the music industry.

Being "poor" in the music business is like a nurses salary

Nothing pathetic about being a rapper. Its an artform. If everybody had your fukked up entiled opinion we would live the most depressing lives ever. Theres nothing mature about quitting your dream to work a 9-5. Music is very important to millions of peoples lives. I just think your whole viewpoint is ignorant.

Because at some point if it doesn't happen you have to move on. @Abso831 said it best IMO. The chances are slim to none that you will even make it. I have NEVER met an aspiring rapper who is out all day making connects, trying to make new music, marketing himself outside of Facebook/myspace, getting up early and actually grinding to make it. So IMO it seems as if you have a little talent and are just trying to ride and be lazy and think everything will fall into your lap. If you want to be a rapper fine, but it's your job and you should treat it as such. Not treat it as a hobby (like most do which is a problem IMO).

:manny: I respect that. But there's also something to be said about understanding we can't have everything we want or do everything we want in life. If you're not going to make it in the "rap game" do something else and stop using your dream as an excuse to be lazy.

what mainstream rap songs in 2014 glorify violence and drug dealing?

What's do you consider to be mainstream?

Quickest way to answer this is by searching for relevant terms on rap genius, [guns, shoot, kill, bricks] etc..
