Why is being an aspiring rapper frowned upon in the black community?

Because at some point if it doesn't happen you have to move on. @Abso831 said it best IMO. The chances are slim to none that you will even make it. I have NEVER met an aspiring rapper who is out all day making connects, trying to make new music, marketing himself outside of Facebook/myspace, getting up early and actually grinding to make it. So IMO it seems as if you have a little talent and are just trying to ride and be lazy and think everything will fall into your lap. If you want to be a rapper fine, but it's your job and you should treat it as such. Not treat it as a hobby (like most do which is not a problem IMO).
Eminem didnt get put on until he was almost 30.
The double standard is disgusting too, rappers are expected to "make it' by the time they're in their mid 20s or to grow up and find something else, meanwhile doctors n judges dont get into their careers into their 30s.

Because it's pathetic. If it's a hobby okay, but a career choice :what:. I can understand teenagers and what not, but at some point if you haven't made any moves in the industry :usure:. It's actually really sad and disappointing that so many young black males want to be rappers & ball players.

When I was little I wanted to be an astronaut and a firefighter...at the same time. But this thing called growing up happened and I soon traded in my barbies and legos for reality. These aspiring adult rappers with no other goals and plans are still stuck in a Grimm's book with the fairies and wood nymphs.

When a guy tells me he wants to be a rapper:bryan:

Wait...... so being an astronaut or a firefighter is not reality :what:

There's a song called Hot N!gga that pretty much meets the criteria.

Its entertainment. That song was even getting played in UK clubs and everyone loved it. The only thing that song glorified was throwing your hat in the air an doing the shmoney dance. Song had hood nikkas dancing in the club instead of posting up waiting for some trouble. Thats the power of music. :ahh:

Because making it in the rap game is a joke within itself...it's no longer about talent. It's about a catchy ass hook, and/or beat. And you have to assume 80% of the nikkas rapping right now won't even make it to a real studio, while 15% of them will have some local popularity, 4% quite possibly may become a 1 hit wonder, of the likes of Trinidad James, and that last 1% will make it into the game.
It's always been about catchy hooks

LOL not for me it wasn't. I'm not smart enough to be an astronaut and I don't think I have the ability to save kittens from a burning building.

Making a career comes with having money and doing shyt for free to just get on. Pro Tools fukked the game up because people who aren't gifted are saturating the market.

:manny: I respect that. But there's also something to be said about understanding we can't have everything we want or do everything we want in life. If you're not going to make it in the "rap game" do something else and stop using your dream as an excuse to be lazy.

But we can. thats the beauy of life. at the end of the day you should be doing something that makes you happy. forget about money for a second.

and the manority of rappers arent going to "make it". doesnt mean they have to stop doing something they love. :manny:

I don't look down on rappers. I look down on bum rappers. It's just not my thing...I would feel the same way if you told me you wanted to be a chef and can't boil water.
