Don-of-them ROY

Actually it's not. Mitchell is good but part of the problem is he shoots too much. He has some ugly games under his belt. But hes a rookie so that's expected, but it doesn't make him better than Simmons.

He's shooting 65% at the rim, which is Curry/peak Wade levels. The main thing dropping his three-point shooting, which should go up a few notches once he cuts out the bad shots as he's a good shooter. His only offensive weakness this year was some bad shot-taking, which is completely normal for a rookie. You also expect his efficiency to plummet when he's at 30% usage which is insane. He's 2nd all-time in rookie usage percentage behind Jordan and top 5 in TS% for rookies playing 30+ minutes a game with a 25+% usage rate, ahead of the likes of Wade, VC, Durant etc.
Simmons is ROTY but Mitchell will only get more efficient, and Simmons will lower as soon as he has to start taking jumpers.
I'm very interested to see how they both fare in the playoffs this season and whether Ben's game translates when defenses tighten up.
The league is in good hands.![]()
The object of the game is to score. There is a reason ppg is listed first in player statlines. People praise assists cause they lead to scores. Im not saying averaging more ppg means he is better either, im moreso talking about their roles on the team. Mitchell a true rookie putting in work in the clutch on a team with a lack of offense and shooting. You can throw the ball to mitchell the last 3 minutes of a game and let him win you games. This will become more apparent come playoff time
Yea to me that's a major, and easily correctable flaw in his offense right now. And that's expected. He isn't a good 3pt shooter yet either (consistently) but he's on his way. I actually think having Rubio as the PG and him also handling the ball has boosted his development curve. He plays both guard spots well.
I’m not discussing who is better cause its too soon and I always like to see how players perform in the playoffs. They are in two different situations, one is playing with a team of shooters and is elite and spreading the wealth. The other, is being asked to be a primary scorer night in night out. As a Laker fan if you asked me who I would rather have on my team, I’m going with Mitchell for what we have on the roster. MJ and Kobe’s championship years had more to do with playing with actual talent and the triangle. They didn’t change their scoring mindset all too much, they were still gunners, just had more of an incentive to distribute at times. With Mitchell, you can stick him on a lot of teams and see no production drop off. If Simmons plays with cold shooters or a team with limited offense, his offensive impact would be limited. You taking Allen Iverson over Magic Johnson, dummy?
You taking Melo over Lebron too?
The objective of the game is to score so a guy who can get the ball to shooters and role players in the positions they're most comfortable is huge. Y'all nikkas really underestimate the value of getting your teammates touches to keep them invested despite the fact that even guys like Kobe, MJ, and the like had their championship seasons when they upped their willingness to create for others.
Guys that can be reliable on offense without feeling included or being unable to build a rhythm are incredibly rare.
. I don’t recall all this uproar than but someone correct me if I’m wrongWhere was all this true rookie shyt when Blake Griffin won ROY. I don’t recall all this uproar than but someone correct me if I’m wrong
Its atleast a discussion when you consider ben simmons isnt a rookie. Ben has had an extra year of film and training with nba personnel. Makes a huge difference.
