i don't even know who some of these nikkas are --- conway, westside gunn or don q; i've never listened to any of these nikkas outside of 1 song by dave east and i don't even remember it so i can't comment
i miss the hood presence in hip hop
hip hop came from the hood, we invented that shyt
i feel like the hood ain't really bein' represented right or at all really![]()
I agree to an extent, it varies from scene to scene though. The Bay Area for example always had both even in the 90s, the alternative ("hipster") presence and fanbase (i.e. Lil B, Andre Nickatina, BSBD, Antwon, Main Attrakionz, etc.) co-existed with the more hardcore scene and there were was some early crossover artists in the late 90s/early 2000's who bridged the gap between both scenes like Andre Nickatina and more recently Main Attrakionz.

We've gone from Casette tapes to CDS to MP3s to Streaming
From Yo MTV Raps and BET Uncut to pornhub & Youtube
It's their genre now, let the youngin do what they want with it
Pretty sure there are some Kool Moe D/Juice Crew/ Kane fans feel the same way about the 90s
this era of "hip hop" is wack though. shyt is corny and simpler than ever
