Besides non criminal family members don't understand law enforcement. they didn't realize they were under surveillance the second these dudes busted out of the joint. All non family and friends would be watched knowing that the cons would reach out in desparation.

He has no credit cards and no known cellphone..he can't be tracked the usual way.

Probably no cctv footage of him anywhere, meaning he's laying low with an unknown close acquaintance or long left in a car as far as possible with assistance.
Getting into Latin America is possible, but I'd go to the Carribean so I can blend in easier.

yes hard for a city boy to adapt to country life even on grid in america.

So he's living like an illegal staying in a rooming house with one of those paper signs at a 24 hour laundrymat with the cuts with the number to call.
