You can't really call rappers that never blew up, underacheivers. There are too many variables that play in an rapper making it big, and most importantly it's timing. For me, you underacheive if you are flat out LAZY, resulting in you not blowing up. Most of these artist never even tried the radio-friendly music.

Saigon is right about where he should be, definitely lower than he would be in the 90s, but still. He's put out tons of music. Jay Elec is lazy, sure he's' an underachiever. Canibus worked, granted he was never going to be a mega star, in that he was a "lyrical-miracle" spitter. Cassidy was a mini-Canibus as a youth, but stripped and simplified by the time he was RR.

Just to make it clear: The Greatest story never told didn't drop in 2007.

Asher hasn't been waiting to get "the buzz back". It seems more like he want to do his own thing: fun raps on boom bap and jazzy beats, while his label want him to put out commercial party music like "Party Girl". He is underachiving in mainstream-sucess, yes, but at least he seems to be having fund and keeping his fans mildly pleased

Right...the list they have seem more like dudes who had a lot of internet hype, local buzz or magazine hype who just didn't live up to it imo....a lot of these dudes haven't proven to be enjoyed by the masses on any level, whether it be a verse, hit song, hot album...I guess its not entitled "most underachieving" but there's better options.

Id like to put the nikka Webbie up there, dropped a classic...hot in the streets, had songs for the ladies...one of the greatest flows and ability ever in the south...but just really would rather chill then be big as a rapper...which I don't knock em for, every rapper don't aim to be a superstar...but he's proven he can be big and has underachieved in maintaining that regardless.

Ima take hit but ima say Method Man...off the strength dude has it all,and shoulda been a sure thing to have a great catalogue and been mentioned in goat discussions...and sumhow has managed to be surpassed by Raekwon and Ghostface from his own crew:mindblown:...not that they bums, but they ain't Meth who surely is the standout who shoulda been out there the most and most succesful...just think he got money off the acting shyt and didn't have superstar dreams as a rapper either:manny:

Kurupt I think Pac mighta killed some of his momentum and shine unfortunatley...but dude was one of the moqst anticipated lyricist of all time...I gotta call him out for having sum of the worst lyrical performances I've seen from sumbody who wuz once elite....and fallin off is understandable but I think he's came back and absolutley murdered shyt too many times that it let's u know he just half azzes it when he feel like it:wtb:

Bizzy Bone-Heavenz Movie is a personal classic, wanna talk about Drake "On The Freeway" shatters any song Drake will ever sing when it come to panty droppers:heh:...was most peoples favorite Bone member back in the day til Krayzie start puttin in work and makin himself visible....Bone couldn't move how they wanted to move becuz he wuz a liability in not showing up,he had big talent...and a helluva jumping off point and shoulda been bigger but got weird and didn't put himself out there enuff consistently..

Again most the dudes I'm namin I genuinly don't think have superstar aspirations, and are bitter they not bigger and that's why they underchieved....but I think make better examples than dudes who just didn't live up to hype plenty of people never saw and only looked good on paper but never proved shyt

Exactly. Meth was lazy...4yrs in between albums...Reggia has what? 8-9 albums to Meth's 4? Ghost has 9-10. He was set up to be the star of the streets, grimy, street dudes love him, lyrical for the underground, the ladies love him...dude just doesn't work. And when he does, his albums are subpar. Tical was OK, T2 is all over the place, T0 I won't mention, then a good album with 4:21.

Jadakiss is another one. He just doesn't seem to want to work, and he's burned out by the time he record his albums.

I didn't know if nobody would agree lol.....cuz he's not a complete bust I can't say.....but his celing was waaaay higher than Canibus....not too many people can say they had the tools meth had as a emcee from lyrical ability, flow AND charisma and personality to help him off wax and not too many people had a better set up to blow.....he really don't strike me as an industry nikka whatsoever and the type to network and build relationships just to get ahead....but like u said that's no excuse for the music other than that movie and acting money was calling I suppose....but I don't think he wuz really actin during his prime like that so I don't know why the long wait:manny:

It's not even really about them being enjoyed by the masses or not living up to the hype. Because many factors play into why a lot these guys never got a fair shot from the start. Especially with the way the current music industry is. They simply did not know what to do with a lot of these guys. These labels didn't/don't know how to market them in this new era. Resulting in them falling by the way side so to speak. They never really got a chance to prove themselves.
