The old guard alternative rap movement was dead by the time Below The Heavens dropped. Blu spearheaded it's resurgence and it has now become commonplace in the westcoast scene. California alternative rap was not maintstream until Kendrick, who was directly influenced by Blu.

Just a three years before that Murs
dropped 3:16 which deals with
very similar topics and a year before
that he dropped Murray's Revenge.

Even outside of that the Cali underground scene and more specifically
the alt rap scene was already in or getting up to full swing with artists like TiRon, U-N-I, Kendrick, Fashawn etc. It's kinda ridiculous to attribute the "New West" to Blu
when truly it was a concerted effort.

Around this time (2007-2010) the east coast had a thing going to Phil Ade, Mickey factz, Theophilus London, Charles Hamilton, Wale and so on

Cold Hearted is actually a magical song. I remember the first time I heard it as as a teen and it gave me chills...so heartfelt

It's contrast from Simply Amazing makes it really hit you. Album sequencing is an art that doesn't get appreciated.

Blu is one of the GOATs to me because of this album and HerFavoriteCol(u)r and although the never reached the heights I would have liked to see him reach, he cemented himself with this album.

Blu birthed the new LA alternate rap movement that's present to this day. Kendrick Lamar sharked his whole style and used it to mainstream success.

Kendrick isnt shy about who his influences are and never mentions anyone from the alt-west movement. If blu inspired him he probably would have mentioned it.
Blu had a chance at mainstream, He had the Album+Movie deal with Warner brothers but the President got fired and Lyor took over. He used to talk about movie scripts
all the time before the release of NoYork

reignite Alt Hip-Hop on the west coast. I said it's been there and has a long legacy.

And Kendrick wasn't influenced by Blu, they don't even rap alike, I have no clue what
