Whether you simply weren't tuning in, or it was before your time, what athlete is the one you'd want to see play the most? My sports history until 1945 professor just sent out an email with an article. On May 5, 1915, the great bambino hit his first home run in a game he pitched for the Red Sox against the Yankees (the pinstripes won in extra innings and I'll link the article when I get my computer). He made the switch to hitting gradually in the late 1910's as he made his way to New York. From there his career became a Paul Bunyan tale of sorts on and off the field, with his on field exploits all documented as fact as opposed to myth. Free daps for all in this celebration post of course, but it got me thinking. Which athlete that you never saw play, would you pick if you could only pick one to see? For me this is an easy choice. The man single handedly changed baseball, taking it in the direction it went as regarding the long ball. Let's celebrate that. 100 years ago today his first dinger.
