You think we should blame the poor for their own actions because it's not businesses responsibility to pay more than what they want.

But this country is countless dollars in dept, largely due to the bad decisions of banks and businesses.

We the working tax payer is supposed to pick up the tab for their shyt.

Stop with the strawman bullshyt. Stop trying to bait me into this big business and banks vs the poor argument.

I already told you I agree that they are some crooks. I already told you I'm not trying to absolve them from blame. I like how you can tell me what I think despite me not saying or implying any of it.

I'm just tired of listening to people complain about how hard it is to feed a family off a low paying job. People need to stop having children they can't afford and stop living above their means. No, you aren't going to feed a family of four off the same job my HS aged sister has. People need better education on how to use their money wisely and make it go further. Personal Finance should be a bigger part of high school curriculum. People need to not settle for mediocrity and actually try to better their situation. Or at the very least, if that's how someone wants to behave they should be willing to accept whatever outcome results from it. This would have a positive effect regardless of how much bullshyt big business / banks try to pull on us.

Who told you that was the main theme with minimum wage workers....?

Furthermore, do the math, and answer me the minimum wage is enough for even one single person to live consistently above the poverty line...:sas1:

I didn't say it was a theme. I literally quoted someone who said that initially.

And I'm pretty sure if you do the math, for one person minimum wage full time is above the poverty line.

This is in Alabama.... where the cost of living is among the lowest in the county...

Measuring poverty realistically
The White House announced yesterday that for the first time in over 40 years, the commerce department is adopting a new formula for measuring poverty. Called the “supplemental measure of poverty,” it will not replace the current official measure of poverty. However, it will factor in expenses such as the local cost of housing, clothing, transportation, health care, and taxes, as well as benefits including food stamps and tax credits when determining the minimum subsistence income.

You may be surprised to learn that the official measure of poverty does not take into account these expenses and these benefits when setting the federal poverty line. Instead, the formula is based solely on the cost of food. It was established in the early 1960s on the premise that every family spends approximately one-third of their income on food. Thus, to calculate the minimum amount of money that an individual or a family would need to subsist upon, the formula multiplies a low estimate of the cost of food for a day times 3, times 365.

Here’s how it works: the current poverty estimate for Jefferson County calculates the minimum cost of food for an individual for one day as only $9.40. So, by this estimation,

$9.40 x 3 x 365 = $10, 296: the federal poverty line for an individual living in Birmingham.
Now with that being said, if you working full time on minimum wage you probably gonna gross around 14k for the year...

If you claim 0, you're gonna net around 10, 500.

Now explain to me how someone can consistently sustain themselves on less than 11, 000 dollars a year....

LOL at the sheer audacity of asking me if minimum wage was enough to be above the poverty line, then introducing a different formula that by it's own admission "won't replace the current official measure of poverty."

LOL at thinking that full time on minimum wage is "around 14k." Nope. Show me that math.

Learn how to multiply. What's 7.25 x 40 x 52? It isn't 14k friend. Imma go ahead and post a this picture to further drive it home.

It's only below the poverty line when you move beyond a household of 1 person, which is what we were talking about...one person.

I don't understand the purpose of you even asking this question if you were going to make up numbers to prove your point.

This horrible post got 75 daps :wow: i can only assume its 75 people that are like 15 and new to the world still :wow:

On the flip side, make only $28,000 take home off $700,000 in sales brehs :wow:

nikka are you retarded......?

I threw a roundabout number out there, and when you do the math, its actually a whopping, 1000 dollars more...... :mindblown:

So again, you claim 0, cut that gross by 25%, you got 10, 500 to 12, 000k

Now riddle me this.....I know you slow simple motherfukker....but how does one person sustain themselves consistently on 10.5 to 12k annually...

Add them living expenses up for me........ but I know you aint finna do it.... :sas1:

Also, if 15k is the poverty line for 2 people, what is if for one person in Alabama?

No I'm not retarded. Again what was the purpose of you asking me a simple math question if you were just going to use roundabout numbers that aren't accurate? We are doing basic multiplication here. How did you manage to round $15,080 to $14,000...but I'm the simple one. Ok you got it. :francis: Now you want to try to move the goalposts by adding extra bullshyt in. Just admit you were wrong and KIM. You're the one who decided to come out of nowhere and ask me that question, I didn't tell you to do that.

To answer your original question, yes minimum wage for one person is above the poverty line. Like I already said in this thread, I wouldn't wish that kind of lifestyle on anyone though. :scust:

You're doing a poor job at proving whatever your point is supposed to be.

This is what happens when salary/wage increases remain stagnant or minimal while the cost of living and Inflation doing 20 over the speed limit.

CEOS are getting paid up to 500 times more than their employees. In the 1970s, it was only 50 times over. These greedy owners of food, real estate, and such are artificially inflating prices for more $$$.

Bu bu but the CEO is God and he cannot be questioned. :sas2:

Go to sleep lil nikka

I give you the poverty line for an individual in Alabama and you come back with a stat for a family of 2 :rudy:

The entire thread is about living wages but you can't explain how a person can live off minimum wage... (which proves a lot of people's point actually)

and yall supposed to be the future....:snoop:

Inevitably, the conversation will segue into discussing wages for entry-level wage earners who are only earning a little higher than the minimum wage...."What's the point of going to college..."

That discussion been going on since the beginning of the great recession where people with masters can't find a job or get paid of what they are worth
