PORT-AU-PRINCE — A Miami man was arrested in Port-au-Prince after admitting that his gun was used in a kidnapping attempt, the Haitian National Police said via Twitter Sunday.

Dorleus Jonas, 59, is the former owner of J.D. Moving Services, a defunct business not active since 2018, according Inter Credit Report.

The kidnapping Jonas allegedly assisted with took place on Rue Germain in Sarthe. When the police arrived, the bandits fled, leaving behind an uzi firearm. Justice of the peace Erick Dorsainvil ordered Jonas’s arrest after the Floridian admitted that the weapon was his, the police said.

It is unclear whether Jonas took part in the attempted kidnapping nor how the police found him.

Kidnapping cases have been on the rise in Port-au-Prince and its surrounding areas in recent weeks. On Saturday, 17 missionaries, 16 Americans and one Canadian, were kidnapped in Croix-des-Bouquets, a commune eight miles northeast of Port-au-Prince.

Haitian-Americans from Florida have long been involved in Haiti’s ongoing violence. In 2016, Junior Joseph, a Florida gun shop owner, was also found guilty of trafficking firearms to Haiti with the help of former Senator Herve Fourcand, according to Miami Herald.

More recently, three Floridians were arrested on suspicion of being linked to Jovenel Moïse’s assassination in July. All three —James Solages, Emmanuel Sanon and Joseph Vincent — are in custody in Haiti as the murder investigation continues.

It's been "partially lifted" before but basically in effect for a couple of decades now.

@7:35 dude saids, "they americans and the senators know theres no soil/ground they haven't stepped on." did i hear that correctly? :patrice:

are these dudes deportees? :dwillhuh:

edit: the video is really 21 mins long but looped. over over an hour.

Well he was making an analogy. There is not many places the U.S can't touch due to the amount of firepower. they have. He was fighting another gang that was led by a guy name Karl Henry who was someone that was deported and was being armed by a senator. That senator has since left the country and is on twitter asking for the U.S for help. He was one of the senator constantly involving in politically distabilizing the country.

I don't want a U.S intervention right now even though I think it will eventually happen reason being the U.S goes in, get rid of these armed bandits before it gets worse, these politicians stay, in another 10 years you will have the same result because the root of the problem is corrupt officials the armed gangs are just the end result of it. The root of the problem is corrupt officials and the rich Arabs that they are slaves too.

Some gangs have allied themselves and now want to go after the corrupt officials and basically they said either we sit at the table to imaginen a new Haiti that creates a fair society or they will kill these corrupts officials and anyone who supports them.

It's time these corrupt officials in Haiti get killed. We can't build a country with corrupt senators, we cant build a country with people who encourage chaos if they dont like election result. The corruption is too damn much and it's every where. These corrupt guys in suit are no worse than these gang members.

I'm not one to encourage killing people. But I wouldn't take that option off the table.

The head of a Haitian gang holding 17 American and Canadian missionaries captive has threatened to kill them if a ransom isn’t paid, according to a video.

“I swear that if I don’t get what I want, I prefer to kill the Americans. I’ll put a bullet in each of their heads,” said Wilson Joseph, believed by Haitian officials to be the head of the 400 Mawozo gang that carried out the brazen mass kidnapping of 16 Americans and one Canadian.

The video was widely being shared on social media in Haiti on Thursday. The Wall Street Journal was unable to verify its authenticity.

Mr. Joseph appeared to be speaking in the video from a funeral on Wednesday of five of his fellow gang members, whose deaths he blamed on National Police Chief Leon Charles. It was unclear how or why the gang members were killed.

“Five soldiers fell but they won’t destroy an army. I’m going to pour blood,” he said.

In the video, Mr. Joseph is wearing a purple suit, has a purple hat in hand and has a large gold cross hanging on a chain around his neck.

The missionaries were abducted last Saturday in an eastern suburb of the capital when armed members of the gang forcibly stopped a minibus carrying the men, women and children. The group, which includes an 8-month-old baby, was returning from a visit to a nearby orphanage.

Haiti is suffering through a wave of kidnapping and common crime driven by gangs that now control as much as two-thirds of the capital and country, according to some local human-rights groups.

The hostages belong to Christian Aid Ministries, an Ohio-based charity set up by Mennonite and Amish and other conservative Christian sects. There was no immediate response by the charity to the threats.

Earlier on Thursday, Christian Aid Ministries held a press conference saying it was holding a day of fasting and prayer. The families of those being held hostage said in a public letter that they were praying for their family members as well as for the kidnappers.

The missionaries and family members being held hostage are from Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Oregon and Ontario, Canada, and range in age from 8 months to 48 years old, said spokesman Weston Showalter. Five of the abductees are children, he added.

Haitian Justice Minister Liszt Quite l earlier this week said the gang is asking for $1 million for the release of each abductee, a total of $17 million.

Leadership of Haiti has consistently failed to develop the country or provide social services to the people. They allow outside organizations come in to serve those functions for them.
Whether it's Protestant missionaries, The Roman Catholic Church, NGOs, etc...the checks and balances aren't in place to prevent and penalize the sexual exploitation and abuse that takes place. Pedos, rapists, and other animals discovered that developing countries and "help agencies" are settings where they can victimize people. Some of them turn up missing when relatives of victims find out what's happening.

This kidnapping isn't related to justice or retribution for victims, though. These gangs are vagabon lowlife MFers who would just as soon abduct a local person they went to school with, or Haitian diasporan visiting her family back home.
All by design.

Haiti has served different purposes for Western countries over the decades. Haitian Leaders who have opted to play ball had the power and authority to make incremental improvements to the country while they were in office. Instead they stole money, and paid lipservice to developing the country. Steal, steal, steal until you no longer serve the interests of the West, or of the Haitian business elite.

These aren't people who are run by remote control, but adults who made conscious decisions that crippled the country.

Why didn't you fix the roads? The white man
Why didn't you invest in schools? That indemnity we had to pay off to the French
What happened to the Petrocaribe money? White Supremacy, Blan....

Exactly what I am saying. This shyt is really shameful. Just poor decision after poor decision which has led to this. Getting rid of the gangs won't solve nothing if the governement continue to steal and cause chaos.

The earthquake from 2010 hit me very hard, but the rioting and violence of the past ten years is breaking my spirit.
