Bolded has some legitimacy to it.

I can agree it has set the country back BUT plenty of countries have recovered from astrocities of the past. You can't build a country with thieves like these.

Who Paid for That Mansion? A Senator or the Haitian People?

"But critics call the Senate dysfunctional. And as the country has spiraled into turmoil in recent months, members of the political elite have prospered abroad in places like the Dominican Republic, the United States and Canada, investing their money — and in some cases laundering it, the authorities say — through real estate.

Despite billions of dollars in reconstruction aid after a devastating earthquake in 2010, the country has not rebuilt, and many contend it is worse off. Armed gangs control many areas, poverty and hunger are rising and officials like Mr. Célestin have been accused of enriching themselves while failing to provide the country with even the most basic services. Transparency International, the anticorruption monitor, ranked Haiti 170th out of 180 countries for perceived levels of corruption in 2020 — tied with North Korea.

"

"Pandora Papers: A mega wealthy man from the region’s poorest country — and his Miami palace"

These people are enriching themselves while living in Haitians in extreme poverty. They don't invest in tourism, a country surrounded by water, they don't invest in roads, they don't invest in agriculture. They do nothing to create a stable society where people can live.

1/3 of Haitians population already live outside of the country. More if you consider their offspring, many of them successful if the country was stable would be traveling back and forth and contributing to growing the country but instead they have been reduced to just sending transfers back home.

These gangs are a problem but the the bigger problems is the people in government. The kidnappers will not kill you if a ransom is paid but Haitians have died at Sea, died in the jungles of south america, died because politicians have encouraged blocking the country to over throw a president, died because they have giving gangs weapons, died because due to lack of proper health care, died due to malnutrition.

This is the end result of their bullshyt. Police officers there should lay down their guns and arms and let them get killed, enough of their bullshyt. If the U.S wants to truly help, they should take over completely. Standing on the sideline sending aid to a bunch of corrupt leaders WONT WORK AND WILL NOT WORK. The money will be stoling. They need to also ban their families from living in France, Canada and the U.S.

The truth is somewhere in the middle. There's external and internal factors contributing to Haiti's current situation.

Isn't the U.S. supporting these people in the 1st place? :heh: They're not sending aid for the people. They're sending aid to the corrupt politicians to keep them corrupt. :heh:

If they completely takeover ala 1915, how will that help things? :patrice:

Do you want it to be the 51st state or another Puerto Rico? The latter isn't faring all that great either. Better than Haiti, certainly worse than the actual states. :picard:

This is very true. Haiti has enough resources to take care of every person on that island. It should never be in this condition.

By complete take over, I meant cleaning house government wise(Judges, President, Senators etc). Foreign military intervention to get rid of gangs will end up with the same result 10-15 years from now because the root of the problem(bad governance and corruption will still remain).

I absolutely hate financial aid from the U.S, it hasn't work, it wont work because these people will steal too damn much. If the U.S was directly in charge of create a competent police force, those $312 million dollars would have been spent more efficiently. I can guarantee a lot of that money has gone to buying houses in foreign countries instead of Haiti.

Create a new government with women, men and members outside of the diaspora with interest in developing the country. A new mentality is needed. I don't know what the fk is wrong with these dudes in power that make them so selfish, greedy, incompetent and can't seem to want to see a beautiful island with no deforestation, safe, clean with the diaspora using their income here to create various businesses and jobs. It can be done.

I hear what you're saying, breh. My only real issue is that as long as the US, Canada, or France (and maybe even now Brazil) is involved, "cleaning house" will never really happen. It'll just be better arranged puppetry. :francis:

Above the fray.
Read about this case a few weeks ago.
American citizen and Vietnam Veteran Jean Pierre Ferrer Michel was kidnapped. Family contacted the State Dept. for assistance/guidance and was ignored. Paid ransom, twice...and he is still not released.

I highly doubt the those Americans were Missionaries, they were probably there trying to steal children or do some organ harvesting or try to rape some children and they were caught by the Haitians.

White people are known to into countries as missionaries and turn around and try to rape children, steal children for sex trafficking and also try to organ harvest.
Proof?

These people truly don't understand. I was about to read this article and stop there.

"
Mevs is a member of one of the richest families in Haiti; she owns Shodecosa, Haiti’s largest industrial park, which warehouses 93 percent of the nation’s imported food. Like everyone else, she has watched with despair as her country descended into chaos since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise.

Her office got the call one early morning in August. It was from Jimmy Cherizier -- aka Barbecue, a former policeman who leads the G9 gang coalition which controls the coastal strip of Port-au-Prince. Most of Haiti’s food and gasoline flows through his domain, and he can stop it with a single word.

Barbecue’s demand: $500,000 a month, a “war chest” he claimed would be used to buy food for the hungry and fight for democracy.

Pay the price, no problems. Refuse, and Shodecosa would be ransacked, and the gangs also would block the roads around the port terminal owned by the Mevs family."

93 percent...most likely has a monopoly and exclusive contract and is the only family who is allowed to do so. Furthermore, it is imported food, the more imports, the better it is for her. People like this have no business in the country. These things are whats killing the country. How does it make sense one family is able to house 93 percent of the nation import. It is not right.

If there was no monopoly, the money will spread around more, fairer wages, more jobs. There will be more families creating wealth, there will be more business creation. It is like these people don't understand how they are no better than these gang members.

Cherizier, a former cop turned gang leader, is a major player in the city, with alleged ties to the government. He runs the G9, a federation of powerful local gangs that he formed last year in a bid to refocus the violence they were waging against one another on Haiti’s ruling class instead. The gangs, according to the police union, are better armed than the country’s own cops.

“The gang in this country is not those men with guns you can see here,” he said. “The real gangs are the men in suits. The real gangs are the officials in the national palace, the real gangs are the members of the opposition.”

But there has been a warrant out for Cherizier’s arrest since 2018 following the La Saline massacre. Rosarion blames the gang leader’s years as a cop as the reason he’s been able to duck law enforcement, despite the fact there’s a police station only a few blocks from his house.

UPDATE 11/21/21

US missionaries say 2 of 17 abductees freed in Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — Two of 17 members of a missionary group who were kidnapped more than a month ago have been freed in Haiti and are safe, “in good spirits and being cared for,” their Ohio-based church organization announced Sunday.

Christian Aid Ministries issued a statement saying it could not give the names of those released, why they were freed or other information.

“While we rejoice at this release, our hearts are with the 15 people who are still being held,” the group said.

The missionaries were kidnapped by the 400 Mawozo gang on Oct. 16. There are five children in the group of 16 U.S. citizens and one Canadian, including an 8-month-old. Their Haitian driver also was abducted, according to a local human rights organization.

The leader of the 400 Mawozo gang has threatened to kill the hostages unless his demands are met. Authorities have said the gang was demanding $1 million per person, although it wasn’t immediately clear that included the children in the group.

The spokesman for Haiti’s National Police, Gary Desrosiers, confirmed to The Associated Press that two hostages were released on Sunday.

The FBI, which is helping Haitian authorities recover the captives, declined to comment
