1991....obscure forgotten classic shyt

Props for the X-Clan video. My favorite joint from them was this:

This period is tied with the 93-96 era for me. What I love about this era was there so much focus on the message in the music. Awareness. Everything was so organic and just pure expression from all angles.

i feel we didn't do Big Daddy Kane justice in this thread.

In 1991 this was the transiition year where I still had Kane as the best but Cube took his spot by the time Death Certificate and Prince Of Darkness dropped.

Prior to POD, Kane came into 91 with

I've heard some say this was Kanes fall off point(some say it was POD). I totally disagree on both......Kane fell off in 94 with that Daddys Home album. Kane on the otherhand by 1991 was that dude to me. He was the undsiputed king IMO. Yeah TOC had two R&B themed songs on side 2 that threw teh whole album off but so what....the album was a banger

This is one of the 2 R&B songs that just didnt fit in TOC....Yet they still made it into a single and video

This was the first single from Prince Of Darkness....

The song where Kane says:

"And put your feet up here my dear
So I can lick upon your toes until your Revlon disappear"

as a preteen I remember hearing that line and going :scust:

I remember when this song came out dude done did that Playboy spread.

Seeing LL make a comeback the way he did...it looked awkward seeing Kane losing appeal even tho I stayed loyal to looking at Kane as being that dude.

The beat to Step Into The Arna was so sick even 2pac had to bow down....I always did the math and noticed that if teh Nutcracker was 18 in 1995 (Thats what he said on the Living Proof album) then he must have been 14 in this video(he's the one holding the metal pipe).....Dude must have those Mike Tyson genes to look like that at 14.

All For One

The video was done at The Dome in Harlem...which was later changed to Jackie Robinson Park...They had to change that shyt up because on Friday and Saturday nights it was just a big space with a bunch of wild kids hanging out while the local dj played on stage. It was pretty much like that scene in Boyz N The Hood when Doughboy had to stick up for Ricky by pulling that gun out on the Blood only there was no cars.

a few years later Legion and Black sheep did a video at The Dome after it was reconstructed into Jackie Robisnon park

First time I ever got high I left my grandmothers crib with Yo MTV raps on the TV....when I came back in the house I was floating, Headbangers Ball was on and all I heard in the hallway was the chorus to this song..

The song sounded and looked demonic and I as high as I was I was convinced that Rock was Satans music but I cant lie...i was glued to the TV.

When I saw their names at the end of the video I remembered it and copped their album a few months later on the stregth of that video.

a little after they dropped this song and video and shut the game down..

While it's usually a constant thought, threads like these are always dope to see every now and again and remind everyone how dope it was to have regional sounds. Weird going back and listening to a lot of the political issues that existed back then, they're still prevalent today.
