'96 was the year I graduated high school. I remember anticipating new issues of The Source, Rap Pages, and Thrasher, copping Hell on Earth the day it came out, watching Rap City, Jeru speaking the truth, Ras Kass dropping' "Soul on Ice" , "Reasonable Doubt", "It Was Written", "ATLiens", "Soul Food"…..Polo Sport with the flag logo, rocking visors, Guess jeans, skateboarding everywhere, backpacks full of a day's worth of supplies, Pac getting killed , having my first "serious" relationship . The summer between high school and college was crazy. So much promise, so much drama, so many dreams ahead of me. It wasn't just the music that was fresher.

The vintage Lo game is no joke,though. Picked up a 92 (I think) cookie patch spell out joint on vacation for $4 and sold it for $400.

Yes, 96 was a great year. Freaknic was still going on. Working with my boys and the honeys, going to college, hanging out at U of Cincinnati heavy. Was telling my boy about Jay-Z from the Clue tapes and couldnt wait for the album to drop that summer. Still blasting the Biggie in the whip. Kellz taking Garcelle from Mr Biggs. Getting the call Pac got shot. Pac dying. Sibs and Halloween weekend at Ohio U. Michael Johnson in those ATL Olympics. Kim, Em, Mobb and Foxy all dropping close together. Could keep going on.....

there was so much great music comin' out that year from hip hop to alternative music and pop music as well

the 7 hip hop tapes that got the most spins from me (which was a lot because i was listenin' to a lot of music back then too) was nas' it was written, pac's 7 day theory, kast's atliens, pac's all eyez on me, jeru's wrath of the math, ll's mr. smith and ghost's ironman album

But damn man, everything '96 throws me back to some of the most fun I ever had... that summer, I was out in the burbs w/ my brother, ridin' around and smokin' and drinkin' with a bunch of white kids who were obsessed with hip-hop shyt They used to think I was extra cool cause I was from the city, meanwhile I'm like Girls with rich parents, all up in their house, hittin' up the liquor cabinet.

Style wise, never switched over to some of the corny shyt like Hush puppies , wasn't quite into them knockoff Versace shyts nikkas were buyin' either, tryin' to look like Puff. But definitely was tryin' to get fresh, after years of the oversized hoodies nshyt. The Mecca shirts were probably the livest new shyt out there. My favorite shyt was the red & blue Helly Hansen... which I still own
