Back when if you that big ass Eddie Bauer coat with the fur hood, you was getting robbed if got caught in the wrong parts out in DC, and PG.

Nikkas used to rock Nautica, Polo, and Hilfiger swim shorts, we was all about New Balance, the Black Timbs, I used to fukk with Mecca hard.

Broads down here used to rock Parasuco jeans. Nikkas that was getting money was rocking Coogi sweaters that they copped from them Arabs in Georgetown. Who will let you haggle the price down.

DC gear was popping (Madness, Hobo)

Damn I can't believe it's been 20 years:mjcry:

1996 was the last year off real Radio, before the Telecom Act took effect.

Clothing wise, the same sh1t I'm rocking now, I was rocking back then. Heavy into Polo, Nautica, Eddie Bauer, Brooks Brothers. Never played the Avirex too tough, was into Andrew Marc leathers, Northface steep tech and Columbia jackets. 96 I had kinda fell back from Hilfiger because everybody and their great grandmother were rocking it. But more importantly, I felt the brand had fell off a lil bit. I was rocking the iceberg sweaters. Speaking of which, what was the name of that brand that use to make comic strip like graphics on sweaters? It's not Iceberg. I remember because they use to sell them at this store I would go to cop my coogi's from. The store was an Italian spot that use to be in Short Hills Mall here in Jersey. Those sweaters were tough but mad slept on because everyone was on the coogi craze then. I was always a tennis sneaker guy so footwear were air forces, air maxes, stan smiths. I did have the Air Pennys II that year tho. Boot of choice were of course Timbs. High end shoe of choice were Gucci. Had the brown suede Gucci loafers and black leather Gucci ankle boots. Also had these brown dolce & gabanna loafers that use to crush em! I wasn't into Versace too tough. I may have only had 2 or 3 items from them ever in life (one being their standardized shades that everybody knows about). And as I said before, the original Cartier's with the wood frames and round lenses are the GOAT optical wear. Way better then the Versace shades imo.

Was only two years old then, would have been living in Germany with my dad

What a great year it was for music though. Pac (RIP) and Nas slayed it, there were also quality albums dropped by Too Short, Lil' 1/2 Dead, UGK, Eazy-E and so many others. 96 :salute:

Who put you on to the older music?

When I was about 12 or 13, I got GTA San Andreas. Two in-game radio stations Radio Los Santos played g-funk and Playback FM played golden age east coast hip-hop. As soon as I heard them, I got hooked :blessed: before San Andreas I only listened to Eminem, 50 Cent, Kanye and all the other dudes who were mainstream in the early/mid-2000s. After it I hardly ever listened to current rap music. It just isn't as good as the '80s and '90s stuff, with some exceptions.

And over the years just exploring that shyt, finding more music from those eras and learning about the historical context that produced it got me on the old school hip-hop even more.

My friends who like rap think I'm weird for only listening to classic hip-hop 90% of the time, but fukk their tasteless asses :pacspit:

San Andreas also put me onto reggae/dancehall and funk music. Such a great game, probably the best game soundtrack of all time :salute:
