I actually like 96 over 94 personally

Rap was at it's height in 96

BIG was established, Pac was established, Nas was established

Newcomers like the Fugees, Jay-Z, Kim & Foxy dropping debut albums

Summer 96 had hits for days

Puff Daddy on top of the world

Mase debuts on the 112 Only You Remix

Don't even get me started on r&b back then: Ginuwine, Aaliyah, 112, Dru Hill, Monica, Brandy, Maxwell, Mary J, D'Angelo, Jon B!!!

The Score was the Fugees second album.

'96 was/is my favorite year ever...

It was the year a lot changed, and you got a whole lot of different music in the mix. You had the street/underground music still getting above-ground play, you had the Bad Boy/Trackmasters sound ruling rap and R&B, the Cali sound was still moving, the Timbaland sound was coming in, the neo-soul was starting to bubble... just a mixed bag going on. It didn't stay still for shyt, there was really something for everybody, and it seemed everybody was able to appreciate a little bit of everything. There was still that element of diversity... of course at the time, there was also conflict going on where there was the East/West shyt, and the "commercial"/"underground" split... but in retro, just having all those different sounds clashing is what made me such an obsessed music fan back then. There was so much music out there that I liked- whether it was Pac, Outkast, Mobb, Jay, De La Soul, Xzibit, Wu-Tang, whoever. What a time.
