wutang fell off & lost their spot 20 years ago.

the internet is dangerous.
the place where people rep & dap each other up while rewriting history.

just calling it a 98 wutang appreciation thread would be more appropriate.

They didn't really fall off tho, musically. They just were no longer in the spotlight. It shifted off of them. Falling off is Prodigy after '99, Snoop from Doggystyle to Doggfather.

No Father To MY Style.. A Son Unique
People always talk shyt to me about it

But i always felt that 98-00 run of wu was just as dope as the origibal run. Sure more mediocrity seeped thru but basically ya talking double the projects dropped in those 2 or so years than the previous 5 combined

Supreme clientele
Blackout
Ghost dog soundtrack
The W
Bobbu digital in sterio
The pillage
Tical 2000

Gza, odb, rae still dropped solid albums in 99 (talk what u want boyt rae... immobilarity still got like 10 dope cuts and dude has like 10 high profile features from that era on top of it)

Wu always hid cuts on soundtracks, cimpilations, etc so its hard to judge where they were at the time but think about it... every single comp, soundtsck, mixtape from the era features wu tang in some way shape or form going well into mid 2000s. Songs like cobra clutch and 97 mentality were crazy popular yet showed up on the swarm...How high was incredibly popular and it was just a ost cut. And they werw on EVERYONES album in some way shaoe or form. Odb. Ghost. Rae. Meth and deck were all over in 989900

for example rae, hes on the lead single/video for fat joe, outkast, slick rick, tash, Onyx, funk flex And cocoa brovas albums.. AND The black and white FILM...while promoing his own album. Yet talk about rae in 98/99 now all everyone says is “immobilarity was wack”... you can easily make a SIX mic immobilarity just replacing the eh tracks with the songs that were FEATURED SINGLES on other albums.

Total domination of the industry. Yet people say they fell off... they just dont realize theres 30 banging songs floating around the era of their so called “mediocre” albums

Another myth is the rza fell off in 97.

I read an old article that confirms for me what i already stated, rza said his production PEAKED on Ghost dog. 98-00 rza had SERIOUS gems.. its just he broke off everything into 20 albums instead of 7.

Had the wu kept those projects closer knit (impossible really with so many dudes on so many labels) they woulda had the game in a chokehold for another few years but... they dropped wu forever in the middle of the jiggy era (after big died at that).. after losing home town radio support thats when people started talking “wu fell off” not realizing they were still top of the game

wutang's music as a whole didn't take a DRASTIC fall in that time period, but they fell off a few notches and fell out of the top-tier, while other crews passed them up.

Holocaust had a lot of potential. One of the prime cases of having a weak team behind him (American Poets 2099 is their new name, still trash) and I'm sure they contributed to loopiness. Rumor was some official Wu members got him hooked on drugs...alledgely either way the shyt he was rapping as Warcloud was :mindblown:
Edit: Rza still has the Holocaust LP produced by him, IIRC Holocaust recorded his tracks with Rza long after the flood

So you are saying on this fukking planet is a RZA produced album for Holocaust?

If my memory isn't completely fukked up, Holocaust had a interview..it was posted in ughh.com's vid section IIRC where he talks about his history with Rza and other things...I think this was before he got in a fight and had to go in a institution or some crazy shyt :dead: video should be on youtube..if I run into it ill post it

Riding off the success of Wu-Forever which dropped in 97, the Wu-Tang and its close affiliates were able to perform one of the most impressive feats in Hip-Hop by dropping nothing but consistent greatness within one calendar year :whew:

That's 8 dope releases that range from classic to good quality, that was released by the same group/family all in one calendar year... I don't any think any other hip-hop conglomerate has been able to pull this off, not Def Jam, Bad Boy, No Limit, Death Row, etc..

:whoa: lets not talk about all the missteps that soon followed in '99 tho :sadcam:

I know my real Wu-heads feel me @SoulController @Billy Ocean @mobbinfms @Nigmund Freud @TrifeGod @SunZoo @IronFist @hustlemania @tuckdog @Animal House @Burger King @Zero @Freddie.Cane @Illeye buckmatic @Danie84 @ℒℴѵℯJay ELECTUA @NVious @Cole Cash @Wallychamp

I know I'm missing more of the Wu-brehs... if yall know them, then tag'em for me so they can discuss this greatness with us....
You got that La album Breh?
I copped all of these except the La album.
I didn’t think any of them were classics. 95 was the greatest year from the Wu.
