Aight... a 750k home on 200k income isn't "living like a king" but I got you lol
Why are you trying to buy a home in New York City to begin with? Flushing a ton of money down the toilet but that's a different conversation, y'all need to stop using these 1 of 1 cities as standards, shyt makes 0 sense. These places are 1 of 1 for a reason, it's not supposed to be anyone's standard metric of anything.

you took the hypothetical to the most extreme :what: most people are renting in NYC, so yes if you alone are making 200k you should be living pretty nice, you just brought owning a house there out of nowhere and didn't even factor in that you would only need to buy a house with a 2nd adult who also bringing in money, so you'd have more than 200k anyway

Typical Coli disingenuousness...yeah you can find an apartment under 2.5K a month in NY but it'll be in parts of NY you don't wanna be in...

Exactly....I'll let them rock.

200k a year as a single non childless adult anywhere in America except maybe Manhattan youre living comfortably :comeon:

Depends on the definition of "comfortably". If we're talking owning a home in a decent neighborhood, having a decent amount stacked up with a decent amount of disposable income, then it's doable but a stretch in the cities I listed. Especially SF

a) I named 5 cities in America where I get the sentiments, which means for everywhere else the OG statement is false
b) I literally said the statement was a stretch
c) most people are renting in NYC, sure. But they're paying mortgage prices to rent so what are we really saying here?

I don't understand how any of that is extreme

He gave you 5 infamously expensive cities while admitting 70K is a stretch and you pushed back with a caveat for what?

20 years ago, you could've probably the same thing about 70K.
:childplease: earning 200k places you roughly in the top 5% of earners in the US
The point is you have to be in the Top 5% of the country to live the life that people assigned to "middle class" about a quarter century ago, which is a (purposely) broken system.

As I said 70K is too far but it's essentially the new bar of entry for what "6 figures" (100-120K) used to afford you.

It’s not damn near 12k after taxes and insurance. Unless you in a state with no state tax.
This. I probably will not hit 200 this year, but likely will next year unless Trump makes shyt even worse. For me to take home close to 12K a month I'd need to be grossing about 20K.

AI is basically saying the same thing. And at that income level you getting killed in taxes.
:yeshrug:

"To live comfortably in a major U.S. city, a single adult typically needs to earn between $85,000 and $175,909 annually, while a family of four often requires a combined income exceeding $200,000, and potentially upwards of $300,000 in the most expensive cities".
