A single male can live on 70k, it's when you add a spouse and kids into the equation where that brings you into the lower class.

200k is doable with a spouse if she is genuinely a "good girl" homebody with low maintenance.

There are people supporting families on less of that in NYC. Unless you are living in high end posh areas of Manhattan, 200k in NYC is very good.
