You can make it off of $70k in any of those cities if you’re childless. $100k/year will have you more than good anywhere in the US.70k is a major stretch but in DC, SF, NY, LA, SEA I can see the sentiment
If you make 200K in NYC
You’re living like a king![]()

That's because this forum has has a ton of people that LIE

making 200K and driving 100K car and eating 300 dinners is crazy work on surface level(not enough info to really judge)....that said, well done maxing out 401KI make over 200k without the wife. I pull about 10k a month after taxes, but my 401k is maxed out so I put about 31k a year into it. So 12k is not far off if I didn't invest so heavy. The reality is I don't worry about money at all. But I have severe lifestyle creep. I have a 100k car and I am looking at a 230k car in 4 more years. 300+ dinners are not even a thought. I see it and want it I get it. If I was more disiplined with my spending, I would be even better off, but I like my luxuries. Myu retirement is set. People making these comments have no clue of what they are talking about only about 14% of american households hit 200k+. What's even crazier the medien house hold income according to the census was 50k in 1990. In 2009 it was still 50k.
