2023 loses.

Both Tatum and Giannis are useless inside the 3 point line until they're at the basket.

Luka will get terrorized by McGrady. Shai is pretty good on D, but it's Kobe so :francis:

The best thing Embiid could is drag Shaq out the paint, but since Giannis can't shoot, Timmy gonna be sitting at 10 feet and in. :francis:

2003 squad outside of McGrady maximize what it means to play at their position at both ends of the floor, so there isn't really exploitable holes in their game.

I'd need to see what the benches are looking like to decide how many games 2023 could take before losing a series.

The Starting Lineups for the NBA finals in 2003

Spurs:
PG 20 year Tony Parker who averaged 14 PPG and 4 AST
SG Stephen Jackson
SF Bruce Bowen
PF Tim Duncan
C 37 year old David Robinson

Nets:
PG Jason Kidd
SG Kerry Kittles
SF Richard Jefferson
PF Kenyon Martin
C Jason Collins

The league was so untalented that the Nets, a 1st round caliber team in 2023, made the finals. The Spurs would lose to at least 5 current NBA teams won the championship.

And yet there's this:

Claiming the entire state of the NBA can be gauged by 5 players cherry-picked from a single year is ridiculous. And those aren't even the 5 best players in the NBA right now due to injuries. What if it looked like:

Steph
Kawhi
Durant
Giannis
Embiid or Jokic

vs.

Kobe
McGrady
Garnett
Duncan
Shaq

And the 2nd/3rd team centers were Ben Wallace and Jermaine O'Neal.

2nd team 2023 would cook them boys.. :ohhh:

Puttin Shaq in a million Curry/Jokic pick n rolls.. :mjlol:

Meanwhile 2nd-team 2004 was:

Sam Cassell
Peja
McGrady (dealt with injuries, shot just 41% and missed playoffs)
Jermaine O'Neal
Ben Wallace

Picking 5 players from one year and pretending that explains an entire NBA era is wack.
