One thing I remember about this team is Karl stubbornly starting a backcourt of Iverson and Anthony Carter (who was actually shorter than AI).

Kobe played light out that series. There was nothing they could of done, Kobe was on a mission

Wrong series/year.

Op is talking about the 2008 team that had AI, not the 09 where he got traded for Billups.

Virtually that same team made it to the Western Conference Finals when AI was traded for Billups. Not saying AI was at fault but the make up of that team didn’t have a leader and facilitator like a Billups. I ultimate lay blame at management because they constructed that team and Karl because for whatever reason he just couldn’t coach the team to any postseason success. I thought it was telling that he didn’t even have plays to inbound the ball when Denver played the Lakers in the WCF.

Karl never had an inbound play till Chauncey got there, how long has this man been coaching :mindblown:

Even then, Kobe might have been even more lights out in 08, there was simply no way the Nuggets could contain him

the team had individual talents but they didn't fit each other. Thats why that got much better when they traded AI for a pure pg in Billups
they were bad defensively
Anthony carter (who started), Kleiza, and Najera were not good
Nene missed most the season
George Karl was idiot

CHANCEY BILLUPS WAS NOT A PURE PG.

HE JUST TOOK MOST OF HIS SHOTS FROM

20ft-29ft
SO HE MESHED BETTER WITH MELOS GAME.

Ain't really about fault, they were running into ATG teams and getting beat.

But if you need someone to point at it's Karl, even with AI and Melo not being the best fit, he didn't maximize the talent he had. Chauncy was a better fit but them getting to the WCF isn't really an indictment on AI. That 07 team could have beat NO, Dallas and lost to the Lakers in the WCF too.

The problem is, they got the 8th seed that year with the smallest margin between the 8th and 1st seed up to that point in NBA history so they lost to the Lakers in the first round instead of the conference finals.
