Not sure why everyone wanted the Hawks to trade Smith for garbage. If they were smart they wouldve dealt him last year before he gained leverage...but letting a player walk for nothing isnt always the worst thing in the world.

I cooled on my stance as well. I think that Smith wouldn't and shouldn't shut the door on returning or leaving because his market in terms of dollars is in the air. Might get the max, might not. He couldn't say if he was for sure leaving, so they cooled on trading him.

Smooth coming back is certainly in the realm of possibility now if the Hawks give an competitive offer.

hawks did the right thing. what trade was out there that you really liked? underacheiving evan turner and spencer hawes? monta ellis for a rental. it wasnt worth it. unless your getting a top 10 pick in the draft. i would stand pat too. first of all, the hawks can offer smoove the most money. so unless smooth wants to take a paycut. the best option is to do a sign and trade. even if smith walks, so what, thats extra money

What would trading him NOW have gotten them? Clearly not enough to make something happen.

Supposedly they were looking for Derrick Williams and Roy and those talks got deaded quickly.

Thats what I said after the bolded...apparently not enough. But I still believe that if a player is no-doubt leaving, you gotta get SOMETHING. And it's hard for me to believe that a Milsap can't get anyyyyyyyything worth trading for. But like I said, I don't know what offers they got.

there's only so much actually out there.

Now come summertime, maybe lots more deals happen since bad teams will be more open to taking risks and you know what draft picks you get. Now? It woulda been little more than playoff teams helping other playoff teams.

Peope ldont understand that sometimes you're better of lettign a fa go then trade for a longer bad cotnract inr eturn if thats the only offers youre getting

The jazz are the only team i question because Millspa and Jefferson are taking away time from their future frontline plus youd thinka guy of Millsaps ability and age they could have gotten something decent back

Now theyre gonna lose Millsap AND Jefferson for nothing while they continue to have an awful backourt
