Between Worilds & Woodley, I really don't know....if only Woodley got his weight & conditioning together smh. He hasn't played a full season since 2010, so he'll probably get the ax. Reports are saying that Jarvis Jones is already in as the starter next season.

Receivers, resigned Crotchery....let Sanders go if he's too expensive. I'd like for us to go after a big bodied receiver in the draft. Like a Mike Evans or Kelvin Benjamin. Plax is done, I'd like to see more of Wheaton next season, operating out the slot with Brown & Crotchery.

O-Line, I'd like to see was bring back Velasco as a backup & just pray to the gods for less injuries next season lol. A healthy O-Line will do wonders for the offense.

D-Line. Hoods, I'm not sold on him, especially being a former 1st Rnd Pick. But he can be brought back for the low if possible. I like Al Woods. Keisel played good but will be another season older.

Secondary! Destroy & rebuild! LOL. Troy played good & was healthy all season. Ike Taylor has said he could moved to safety. If Clark doesn't want to take a paycut, then he can go roll out. I'm not quite sold on Cortez being the #1 yet though & Gay being #2. Definitely has to be addressed in the draft. If Dennard was to drop, get him!

No Huddle will be our base offense in 2014
http://triblive.com/sports/steelers/5335446-74/half-roethlisberger-huddle#axzz2pHMzS3JE

The idea: to begin next season with the no-huddle as the Steelers' base offense.

“We got to the point (of the season) where it was like, ‘OK, this is where we're at our best,' ” Roethlisberger said.

Looking at the numbers, he's right.

The Steelers began using the no-huddle far more frequently beginning with the Bills' game Nov. 10, which coincidentally began the second half of the season. The idea was to take elite pass rusher Mario Williams out of the game, and it worked; he didn't have a sack or even get close to Roethlisberger.

Not only did the Steelers go 6-2 in the second half after starting 0-4 and 2-6, they scored 67 more points in the second half than they did in the first half (223-156).

Those 223 points were sixth in the NFL.

Roethlisberger didn't throw for as many yards in the second half (1,872) as he did in the first (2,145), but that's a byproduct of having the lead more often and not needing to throw as much, plus an upgraded running game.

The biggest statistical turnaround: Roethlisberger was sacked only 11 times after the no-huddle became the offense of choice, compared to a whopping 32 times in the first half. He also threw only five interceptions in the second half of the season, compared to nine in Games 1-8.

All but 26 of Roethlisberger's passing attempts out of the no-huddle came during the final nine games. Overall, he was 102 of 163 for 1,221 yards and 10 touchdowns in the no-huddle.

The Passage of Time
Def:

1st Level is young and solid to good with depth

2nd Level is young fast and Worilds is better deserved to re-signed Woodley can hit the road.

3rd Level Ike needs to go to SS and replace an old slow Clark. Clark biggest asset of hitting is now illegal in the league so he's expendable. Cortez is a solid defender but give too much a cushion even on 3rd and 3 he'll be 10yards off the LOS. S. Thomas should increase his role and share equal time with Polamolu.

3rd level is the biggest weakness and we finally need to get a DB in the 1st round instead of always getting guys in 4th round. I think the first 2 rounds should be dedicated to DB's before the NFL start trying to change our draft order because of the ravens game.

OLine got better down the stretch as they stop getting injured and had more continuity.

WR Sanders can go, the kid from oregon state will replace him. D. Moye will be a better red zone big WR threat.

we need an overhaul..but our strong finish to the season shows me that we were better than i may have thought at first.

#15 means we could potentially get a good O-lineman for once...usually the top DB's are gone by then so i doubt we draft anyone unless they fall down to us or we trade up.

i was saying let Troy go before this season and he surprised me...so i say let him go now lol same with Clark too unfortunately.

Ike to safety would be a good move..i've always liked him and this could give his career a little more shelf life but he will as always not be a threat to pick off anything

NYC (but PGH will forever be home)
Is Louis Nix a good NT prospect for us? I don't know if Notre Dame runs a 3-4 or a 4-3

Real tough to take a NT at 15. Especially Nix, who was very spotty his last season. I feel we can pick up a NT in the 3rd or 4th for depth. Getting anther ILB in the 2/3rd would definitely help out the run game.

But the first pick HAS to come in and make an impact day 1. That why most of us are thinking a WR or TE- We will have the pick of the litter with all of the QB's going in the first half...

I'd actually be pretty happy with Nix. The 3-4 basically begins and ends with the NT taking up blockers and allowing the playmaking LBs to do what they're paid to do, and McLendon just isn't cutting it, I don't think.

For round 2, this may be homer'ish but I want Allen Robinson as the big offensive skill player pick. 6'3 200 lbs, dominated B1G defenses that focused solely on him since the other WRs on the team were straight trash, fights for and wins jump balls, dangerous on the quick screen.. He's a perfect fit, and with him at our #2 spot and Cotchery and Wheaton, we could average 25-26 ppg next year.

The more I think about it, the more I'd like for us to try to repeat the Ryan Clark signing by picking up a reasonably priced, fit-the-system SS so we can focus on BPA in round 1 (which is how we had so many successful first round picks in the 00s)

I know we need an ILB but remember Sean Spence could be back next year, and Vince Williams played all season and is reportedly a very smart player just maybe a bit limited physically

I believe CB and NT are our most gaping weaknesses and if we can find a legit player at either or both of those positions, the defense will be SIGNIFICANTLY improved. I'm still mad we lost Keenan Lewis.

Didn't see that coming. The Oline was actually coming together pretty good the 2nd half of the season

Just came in here to post this, dude did get fukked. If anyone should be fired it should be their strength and conditioning coach because they are always injured. That line did start playing very Well during the second half of the season.

Had to step away from football during the week to let it all soak in...

What a way to finish the year...
Actually winning games that we were sapposed to

But the positive that stood out was the development of some of our young guys

Im going to breakdown my off-season analysis into 3 parts...
Salary Cap, Offense and Defense

Salary Cap

A lot of people don't truly understand our cap situation.
It's actually not that bad
To break it down...
My analysis along with some random thoughts of Beat Writer Dale Lolley & Cap Expert Ian Whetstone...

We have 43 players under contract for next season at $131 million and change.
The cap is expected to be between $126 and $127 million.
Remember that Levi Brown trade...
Well cutting him will automatically net us a savings of $6.25 million.
With regards to Lawrence Timmons' contract...
turning his base salary into bonus money would be an additional savings of $3.9 million.
They could also do the same with Antonio Brown and pick up another $3.9 million.

In the matter of three moves,
we just trimmed about $14.5 million off the cap,
this with the only release being a player who's never played a down for the Steelers.

The Steelers have no restricted free agents this season so they won't have to worry about clearing space for any tender offers.

We can gain further money by extending Ben Roethlisberger's contract.
In this case,
You offer Roethlisberger a six-year deal - in reality four new years since he's still got two remaining - at between $100 and $110 million with a $30 million bonus.
So in this case, you lower his base salary in 2014 to $2.1 million, which would shave another $4 million off your 2014 cap.

That brings the cap savings with now four offseason moves to $18.5 million without working up too much of a sweat.

BTW, Roethlisberger's future numbers, in this scenaro would be $5.6 in 2015, $14.8 in 2016, $15.5 in 2017, $17.2 in 2018 and $19.8 in 2019. His cap hit in 2015 would remain what it is now ($18.4) and going up to $20.8, $21.5, $23.2 and $19.8 in the final seasons.

They are big future numbers, but that's the going rate for a franchise quarterback who seems to be finding his groove.

And there are still some other moves the team could make -
asking some vets to take pay cuts or releasing LaMarr Woodley after June 1 -
that would free up even more cash.

More on Woodley,
He accounts for $13.5 million of our cap number.
By releasing him post June 1,
we can push $8.6 million of his cap hit into 2015.
But that's June 1st
after the draft, after most free agency

There is still a good chance LaMarr is a Steeler next year based on that sole fact
We can easily be under the cap come draft day and we have no glaring FA needs

A huge decider on Woodley will be Emmanuel Sanders.

If he goes,
We might spend that 1st pick on Evans out of Texas A&M
This saving us some more money because the rookie will be cheaper
Our WR core can look like:
A.Brown
Evans
Cotchery
Wheaton
Moye
J.Brown

While I do mention Evans...
Just a note,
I know very little on this guy outside the 3 game's I've watched
By the time I do our offensive analysis I'll know if he's a Steeler guy

I can see Wheaton developing more with an off season kinda like A.Brown did.
He could move into a solid slot wr role next year

But all in all,
We have no glaring need to spend money on expensive FA's this year
Just bodies to fill holes and be the next man up

Our Cap situation is good
