I'm aware of the market, but the market shouldn't dictate the Hawks overpay for a player who at his ceiling is probably 12-13 a night with an inconsistent shot. I feel like I'm a little closer to the Hawks train of thought on Baze, would be cool to have him back, but not willing to overpay to keep him. $10-$12 is the max the Hawks should commit to him
Chris Viv and everyone in the organization stated we want Bazemore back but at 10-12. He's not Carroll where I would pay that. His fit was mediocre at best. He had the worst team impact stats two years ago for us and was just average last year, at times below average. Color me unimpressed.

LOL what kills it, Harris? I just like Gallo and Nurkic replacing Barnes and Bogus more than anything.
Are you crazy? Denver has a better center than Bogut in Jokic. They don't need Bogut. They need a star. None of which Bogut or Barnes are. Gallinari is better than Barnes.

Throw in cash considerations breh lol

And I thought they were worried about Gallo being himself, and Nurkic being injury prone?

He's good as gone. We can get Rudy Gay for a 1st round pick and Thabo/Splitter(3rd team to clear space) or trade for P.J. Tucker. Bazemore is not worth more than 10-12 for what we do.

I'll rather us our cap space for someone like Dwight Howard, Noah, etc and add an impact player in our rotation than bring back an mediocre wing who doesn't fit skill-set wise. We need a 3rd big who has an impact if we can't get Durant which is highly unlikely.

I'm not saying the Hawks have to pay him that, just what I think he'll command generally. I agree that ideally you want him for 10-12.

Exactly. This from AJC Columnist Mark Bradley

Kent Bazemore: Let him leave. As Jeremias Engelmann of ESPN Insider notes, Bazemore’s Real Plus-Minus was the 30th-best among small forwards. (There are 30 NBA teams.) According to Basketball-Reference, Bazemore’s VORP (value over replacement player) was 1.2. By way of contrast, DeMarre Carroll’s VORP was 2.7 in 2014-15. If Carroll wasn’t worth what he was asking, Bazemore won’t be, either.

I'm good with letting him leave altogether to be perfectly honest

That's not ideally, that's the limited. Anything more and your hampering the team. You could say us paying Dwight 4/100 is the same but he would be part of the rotation which solves a lot of issues we have. Bazemore is just an average player. He doesn't solve any real issues that we couldn't get via trade for our system. Like I stated, you can just package players and do a three team deal for Rudy Gay who is better than Kent and fits us a lot more than he fits Sacramento.

Bazemore is more visual. People can see Bazemore's value. He is a great athlete who is a becoming a 3&D player. He isn't consistent enough yet and was out of position. While Carroll was an elite 3 and D player, he wasn't all that athletic but he was a much smarter Basketball player. I wouldn't miss Kent if he left at that price unlike I did when DMC left. Even when Bazemore was at SG, his offense was the same although his defense was better.

I'm happy for Baze and that he's about to get paid, but if he's asking for $16 million, I'ma wish him well and move on. He is not worth that amount. He started the year off strong, struggled for part of the season & struggled with his shot/confidence. He's an undersized SF who can't consistently shoot. He's not getting $16 million if I'm running the Hawks

I disagree. Move Baze to his natural SG position and dude will be a very very quality player in this league (that's still improving might I add).

And I don't think the Hawks would miss Baze that much either. Good energy guy, good athlete, good guy, but he doesn't have a good feel for the game or shoot it consistently enough to warrant $16-$17 million. He's gonna get grossly overpaid by some team that thinks he's gonna be a 15 & 5 guy who consistently makes smart decisions on the court. That's just not him

He's gotta get a stronger handle & shoot it better to be a SG. But the bigger question isn't if Baze is a quality player. I think we would all agree that he is. The question is: should the Hawks offer Baze a contract worth $16-$17 million a year?

I mean Baze is only 27, still improving, and spent the entire season playing out of position (giving up at least 2 inches and 30 lbs nightly to other players). Improving his handle and shot should be natural progressions at this point (don't forget he was the Hawks best 3 pt shooter for most of the season and he was able to get in the lane quite a bit). My thing is, if you're not going to resign Baze, then what young SG is available that can step in and play for the Hawks while providing the same energy on defense?

While I'm not sure about the $16 million per year, who knows how crazy these contracts are going to be come Friday. Replacing Baze might not be that easy.

Breh Baze was a mediocre defender last yr :dwillhuh: he brought energy but it didn't translate into great defense. Look at his value over replacement that I posted a few posts ago, he's not worth it at that price. Who do the Hawks target if Baze walks? IDK, b/c the position he filled was SF. I love @Qohelet idea of going after Rudy Gay via trade, but there will be options at the position. I don't think the mentality should be overpay to keep guys with a limited ceiling just because we like him. Baze isn't some key piece, no reason to pay him like one

:mjlol:

If bazemore gets 17 mil then we will have a lockout within 2 years

Even when the cap jumps to 110, thats still 15 percent of the cap to bazemore. Thats too much.

I heard a rumor the Nets want to give Bazemore a 4 yr 68 million contract. Keep in mind that their new HC Kenny Atkinson was one of Bud's assistants and is a great player development coach. I could see Atkinson pushing the FO in BK to get Baze at that deal

@No Homo if y'all want Baze for damn near $70 million I'll fly him up there myself :mjlol:
