I know he's had injury issues, but how has Jarvis Jones been the past few seasons overall? I remember going into the 2013 draft he had quite a bit of hype, but it died down somewhat and he went middle of the first round? I haven't heard too much of him.
Complete bust as a pass rusher. He'll make a great tackle for loss or strip sack or something maybe once every few games and make you think he's about to break out, then just disappears again. To his credit, he had a decent couple playoff games.

Not confident in Cortez Allen
Gonna be perfectly honest - I forgot this guy was on the roster. I've been over here racking my brain thinking about what our CB situation will be next year. Do we keep both Gay and Boykin? Does Golson win a starting job? Where does Cockrell fit in? How quickly can we cut Blake? At no point has it crossed my mind to wonder where Cortez fits in :heh:

Theres no way he doesnt get cut. That contract was so stupid :snoop:

If we can keep Boykin, Gay and Cockrell Ill be happy. Add in golson and we're pretty solid at corner. Blake needs to go

Drafted to be a Joey Porter, looks like his ceiling will be Clark Haggans, which isn't all that bad I guess but when you draft a LB in the 1st rd, especially in Pittsburgh, you expect double(or close to) digit sack numbers :francis:

I figure Cortez is pretty much:camby:

Not sure if it's injuries or mental or both that have done him in but I'm not even gonna believe he'll get back to his play of a few years ago:manny:

I'd like to see Gay, Boykin, Cockrell, and Golson back. Blake can stay as depth, and hopefully Doran Grant earns a chance to contribute. Wouldn't mind drafting a CB or Safety early either. Need a replacement for Will Allen if Robert Golden isn't in the plans

As it stands, safety Mike Mitchell and cornerback Cortez Allen, who played exactly one game this year with a knee injury, are the only defensive backs with extended starter's experience under contract. The Steelers still have one more year with safety Shamarko Thomas, who was groomed for the job but couldn't hold onto it.

Re-signing Gay would be an easy decision. Coaches trust him. He has value here, and he should be available at a reasonable clip. My sense is Boykin will want a fresh start somewhere else. Perhaps they bring Blake back but he could be the odd man out. Do the Steelers see Golden as a starter? That's a question that would affect Allen. The team might be reluctant to re-sign both if that's the case. If Golden is viewed mostly as a special-teams standout, Allen might return a valuable swing safety who would help groom a draft pick.

I wouldn't be surprised to see an opening-day corner rotation of Gay, Golson and a rangy, athletic draft pick from the first two rounds. Cortez Allen is the wild card. As ESPN's Bill Barnwell pointed out, the Steelers can save $4.4 million by cutting Allen as a post-June 1 release. I don't think he's done, but he might be done in Pittsburgh because of the cap savings.

Signing a good cover-corner free agent such asJanoris Jenkins seems like a prudent decision, but the Steelers rarely go that route. Perhaps the Boykin trade in the preseason shows they are willing to take more shots in that regard.

If the Steelers want to jump from good to great, they'll need to develop or sign at least one elite cornerback. Once they figure out how to do that, they can game-plan for their free agents.

Mike Tomlin has work to do.

"I’m open to any mix that will put us in the best position to win," said Tomlin about his roster.

Our secondary BETTER look completely different next year. IMO you keep Boykin and Mitchell... maybe Gay and switch him to safety once you draft corners in the first and second round.

I would also look at trading Wheaton depending on what you can get for him. Love him as a player but you're going to have to pay Brown, Bell too if you choose to keep him in the next two years. Might as well get something for him instead of just letting him walk like we did Sanders.

Brought back Cockrell:

Cornerback Ross Cockrell was set to be an exclusive rights free agent this offseason, a designation that is more about the exclusive rights because a player isn’t a free agent at all unless the team doesn’t want to re-sign him.

Cockrell won’t have to go through those motions come March, however. The Steelers announced Friday that they have signed Cockrell to a contract for the 2016 season.

Projected Corners for our first round pick:

Kevin Byard - Middle Tennessee St

Eli Apple - Ohio State

Kendall Fuller - Virginia Tech

:patrice:
I have no problem with fuller or apple, I admittedly have no idea who the fukk byard is but if spence is there at our pick, i take him period. I don't give a fukk about him getting kicked out of ohio state.

I wish we could trade up for hargraves cause he's sick as fukk and exactly what we need but it won't happen.
