Chris Matthews, MSNBC and other beltway politicians turned journalists see this as a loss of influence, so of course they are going to fight against it.

39% of Nevada's voter population is non-white

21% are Latino

11% are Asian

I think the remainder would be African American since black folk make up 8-9% of the state's population
