I was playing around with tax calculators between the USA and the UK to see what the difference is.

If you make $50,000 in the US, that’s roughly $38,000 after tax (may vary by state). I get that people contribute to 401ks and health plans but imma keep it simple.

The equivalent of $50,000 in the U.K. is 38,618 pounds. That’s roughly 29,796 pounds after UK taxes are taken out which is equivalates back to $38,577 in US dollars. The UK workers makes roughly the same post tax earnings in terms of purchasing power as the US worker.

If you jump the salary to $150,000, the US worker has roughly $100,700 after tax (may vary by state). The U.K. worker ($115,854 is the British Pound equivalent of $150,000) has 72,557 pounds after tax which is roughly equivalent to $93,900 in US dollars on a post tax basis. It’s $7,000 more than the US person had to pay but in the scheme of things it’s not a big deal.

Why is it that the British pay a comparable tax rate to us but they have various social services that we don’t in America :jbhmm:

Cause the military and pharmaceutical companies eat up the tax base.

shyt like this is disingenuous as fukk. Guttenberg is a one-issue activist who hates Bernie because he's moderate on gun control (something that will HELP him in among working-class voters in red/purple states). He's been caught lying on Bernie repeatedly, even blaming him for the Parkland shooting when Bernie has been on record for 30 years in support of an assault weapons ban.

The fact that you would use that and claim it is evidence of anything just shows that you're latching on to whatever narratives support the tale you want to hear. What use is the opinion of a random Twitter voice who as no expertise in the area and is already biased for a completely unrelated reason? I'm not blaming Guttenberg for being emotional, he has a reason to be emotional, but projecting his voice as if he's an expert on something he knows nothing about is completely irresponsible.

And Beto was anti-gun - how does that do in Texas?

The good thing for Democrats in Texas is due to old White folk dying and Hispanics coming of age it literally gets bluer every year. Urban white voters seem to be trending bluer there too. Just look at the poll numbers.

Why is it that Bernie shows up to right-wing outlets like the Fox News town hall and Joe Rogan's show, spends the entire time explaining his policies up front, and people love him?

Why is it that Bernie has consistently been the only candidate whose likability numbers increase the more that people get to know him?
He doesn't hate Bernie, he hates his stance on guns. You just said it yourself, he's a single-issue activist. He's passionate about gun violence. To claim he somehow has a personal vendetta against Bernie and therefore his opinion on Bernie should be discounted is retarded.

As for Beto, he didn't make the "hell yeah we're going to take your guns" comment until he was running for prez. He was advocating abolishing ICE when he ran for Senate. I'll say this, despite speaking Spanish fluently, Beto's hispanic outreach sucked according to Hispanic orgs down here so that might be an area Bernie can improve upon.

I think the foundation of Bernie's likability is the fact that he's authentic (I give him that), but also that he's been a consistent foil to Hillary, one of the most disliked politicians in our country's history. I would like to revisit these favorability numbers once the full oppo drops and the spotlight is put on him as the nominee against Trump. I imagine people will start answering those poll questions differently once they get a full picture of his views and he's a legitimate threat to Trump. Whatever coverage Fox News is giving him right now should be ignored. They are treating him with kid gloves because they view him as the weakest general election nominee for Trump. If he secures the candidacy, you will see a switch flip in right-wing media.

Nap needs to be chopped up and turned into curry goat. He thinks that if you aint doing STEM, you dont deserve health insurance or a living wage.

my ideal situation?
he's not a democrat so kick him to the curb :manny:

The bernie bros will be mad but sanders will be too old to run again so we can ignore them.

My realistic option?

Introduce some blackmail to put bernie in line because he's getting too uncontrollable right now and its hurting our chances of beating Trump.

Dude you’re insane, a hypocrite, and a sociopath.

:what: What is up with the anti-moderate sentiment on this site. Without moderates, Dems don't take back the House in '18 and none of Trump's crimes get exposed.

Meanwhile...

Our Revolution backed candidates went 0-27.

Brand New Congress backed candidates went 0-6.

Justice Democrats backed candidates went 0-18 in Congress, they went 7 of 79 nationally. None of those seven wins came in swing districts.
I believe people realize that "moderates" while Trump is in office has grown to also include Never Trumpers and closet republicans who masquerade as independents by day.

Beto in Feb 18 talking about supporting an assault weapon ban: "Will I get the stuffing knocked out of me by the NRA for this?" he said. "Just watch it come down on us in the campaign."

Cruz in Mar 18, attempting to use Beto's views on guns against him in the 18 election: "Congressman O’Rourke is a vocal proponent of gun control and restricting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens,” Cruz said in a call with reporters Tuesday night. “But those anti-gun views are not reflective of the values of Texans.”

Beto's stance on guns was a significant part of the senate race before he ran for president.

How did Justice Dems “get no one in Congress but win 7 nationally”?

In the 2018 elections, 26 of the 79 candidates endorsed by Justice Democrats won their respective primary elections. Seven of these candidates won in the general election: Raúl Grijalva, Ro Khanna, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Pramila Jayapal.
My bad I should have clarified, those were endorsements where they were attempting to flip a seat. @OfTheCross posted the article above.

A South Florida Democrat in the House of Representatives that JUST got elected in 2018 has basically condemned Sanders comments on Castro and Cuba.

This is precisely what I'm talking about.

The man will fukking ruin EVERY down ballot race in this country.

my god... what are we doing :wow:

He’s so damn stubborn. I find a lot of his decisions puzzling. Well if he wins, I guess we can say he did it his way. :manny:
