Right. He can get it done, but I think Republicans can effectively attack him on this during the election. Eliminating all student debt without means testing would be giving handouts to a lot of doctors and lawyers.

Like why should the government spend 200k to eliminate debt for a doctor who went to Harvard? We could find much better uses for that money.

Sanders response is we just cut $1.5 trillion in taxes for the rich and large corporations therefore the Republicans need to shut the hell up.

I agree with you. If its about "fairness" in that student loans = predatory and bad then i see how he is just willing to forgive all of it. Thats why i brought up the flat tax. In a vacuum..if everyone was at the same exact level of income and everyone was taxed the same rate. Sure. But its not a good sell to tax someone making 10k 50% and someone 1000000 50%. Just to be simple.

On the other hand..forgiving the loan debt of those with great jobs like you mentioned would conceivably free up even more money to be put back into the economy. Idk.

It just seems best to scale the forgiveness in terms of how much someone can reasonably afford to be paying it back

Edit:just to add...i feel the same way about UBI. Why give 1k a month to a couple making high 6 figures or 7 figures? Youre just throwing away 24k a year per couple there and if they have kids over 18 then even more

Lets use phil rivers as an example..dude has earned around 200m in his career and has 9 kids. When theyre 18...his family would be getting 11k a month. Thats ludicrous

If you're in that tax bracket then your taxes will go up.
