:dahell: I'm not sure what you're saying. My whole point is that being a doctor isn't the only essential position in society yet it seems to be the only one people are demanding sustain incredibly high pay. The government using its leverage to reduce doctors salaries and bring healthcare costs down to international levels isn't a mechanism to boost teacher or social worker salaries. Those are separate issues that should be corrected on their own.

High salaries attract the smartest risk adverse people.

If you drop salaries, do you not think their be’d a drop off in the smartest ppl possible getting into the field?

Doctors and hospitals killed universal healthcare when Obama tried it, so I'm under no illusions about how difficult M4A would be politically. I'm just saying it's not going to be possible to implement if you don't either reign in the compensation for healthcare workers, which is the highest in the world, or soak the middle class in tax hikes that would most likely end up increasing their healthcare costs on average. It's a political decision. Either America is a haven for wealthy doctors or it's a place where everyone gets healthcare at a reasonable cost.
The only way you can sell that is to make med school free. My wife is a pharmacist. She makes over $100,000 a year, but she has over $250,000 of student loan debt. For MDs that is double. You can’t ask doctors to do all that schooling and rack up over a half a million dollars in student loan debt and take a significant pay cut. Most people in this country is not going to support that.

I understand doctors and health workers in other countries don’t make as much as US MDs/health workers, but they also don’t have the amount of student loan debt American doctors have. So the only I would support what you are saying is if the cost of med school and other health related schools go down dramatically.

Of course, which is what I've said throughout this whole thing. You cannot reduce doctor's salaries to international levels without commensurate changes in medical education. Which is why both candidates supporting M4A are supporting free college and debt forgiveness.

No, and I think that the fact other countries have a higher quality of healthcare with less doctor pay is evidence of that. Ultimately you might cull the people who go into medicine as a ticket to an upper-class life, but I don't believe that's most doctors.

Yes,
But to my understanding both Sanders and Warren’s free college plans are only for undergrad, if I’m not mistaken. While that will help, the vast majority of debt for health workers are their post graduate schooling.

What’s higher quality healthcare mean?

You do realize America subsidizes the worlds healthcare right?
