Would Bernie going to Cummings' service specifically to improve his position with black voters really be any better?
When funerals start being looked at as opportunities, we're going in the wrong direction.

I think it's subjective whether or not Bernie not attending made things worse. It seems like a cheap talking point that will likely be forgotten by Monday.
Just the petty nature of our politics showing up once again.

Mainly because of people like you, who has had an agenda against Bernie for years and will use any opportunity to try and tear him down. You probably have hundreds of posts on here trying to throw dirt on him. Of course, you will see this as ammo to take a shot and hurt him.
Why would the average American care about this?

Also, would you say that had he gone through the motions and gone for political purposes only...that it would've been the superior option? Are we pro pandering?

Maybe. But not going to the funeral of a civil rights leader when you yourself try to tout your civil rights activist credentials looks crazy. Plus, why wouldn't you attend the funeral of a colleague from the Congress and the civil rights movement? What do you have that's so important that you couldn't do that?

I feel bad for Bernie. He's not my choice, but it seems like this is typically the kind of stuff held against him, rather than his platform.

Politics aside it might be decent of him to attend to show respect to a man we assume he respected and assume he had similar beliefs with.

People with lower poll numbers than him managed to find time in their schedule to atleast feign respect. For a candidate who allegedly cares about black people he has a weird way of showing it.

Yeah I thought the same thing about the debates. It seems she’s strategically just choosing certain frontrunners to try and call out publicly and hatchet, whatever her motivations are. She tried to bloody up Warren last debate but it flopped.

maybe Bernie believes the work has to be continued. The guy had a heart attack, said he was going to take a break, and then proceeded to hold rallies.

I agree that Bernie should of attended Cummings funeral . It just give fuel to people that think he is insensitive about Black issues. However, I think the impact is being overstated. I doubt this will make a difference with most Black voters.
