Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high

Breh, did you read it?

Nothing specific for Blacks, more "ricing tide lifts all boats". Can't hold it against Bernard and not hold it against Elizabeth.

"By making this shift, we can raise farm incomes and reduce taxpayer expenditures. We can break the stranglehold that giant agribusinesses have over our farm economy, and expand economic opportunities for small- and medium-sized farmers, family farmers, women farmers, farmers of color, and farmworkers. We can also provide consumers with affordable, high-quality, and often local food, while protecting our land and water and combating the existential threat of climate change." - E. Warren

I'm sorry, breh. But she didn't offer any Black specific solutions. It's the same "rising tide lifts all boats" type of thing that people hold against Bernie when it comes to the Black community

The only specific thing that she mentioned was HR40...which Sanders also supports

Even if what you posted were true, Liz will go in depth about how a policy pertains the the black community and specific ills it addresses. Bernie does not talk race at all and simply says how it’s going to help a class of people. I actually don’t believe you get elected with a bunch of black specific policies, but I do think you need to be comfortable weaving your policy into the specific challenges faced by the black community and talking to us as a people and not just “all people of this class” thing he does. You may think that’s cool, but as a group who so staunchly votes democratic, candidates better come to the table ready to speak on theirs policies and their applications to the black community specifically

So Steyer has stepped out with very specific proposals chiefly reparations. (I know it’s not going to happen but putting on the agenda pushes the movement forward). Biden has no proposals that impress me but if he wins, it will be solely due to the black vote. And while he will not have many of the progressive policy goals specific to black people that I see from Warren, he will be beholden to the black politicians and groups who supported/endorsed him.

I love Bernie’s progressive ideals but he has done little to fill in the “how”. In addition his response to a lot of the race specific questions tend to be “My plan works for all people/I don’t see color” So his catch all prescriptions for issues in the country don’t do much to redress how racist policies have harmed black people in the country.

With Biden, I'm not so sure.

You are right on one front, black people will have voted him in but I have no faith that a POTUS Biden would do much of anything significant.

I sort of believe Steyer, he seems like he genuinely cares.

Aside from criminal justice, I'd say the other plank of Sanders platform that addresses race is his housing policy and its goal to get more black wealth by opening doors to home ownership that's sustainable not the fake shyt we saw in the 2000s that culminated in the financial crisis.

I think Warren articulates points like these a lot better. I give credit to Steyer and Marianne for leading on the reparations bit though.

Elizabeth’s plan on addressing discrimination and ensuring equity for farmers of color will:

Tackle the legacy of discrimination in USDA through structural and cultural reforms, including by nominating a Secretary of Agriculture who has a demonstrated commitment to advocating for Black farmers;

Establish an Equity Commission staffed by Black, brown, and indigenous farmers, researchers, and activists to unearth the full range of USDA’s discrimination and to develop real, long-term solutions that will last beyond a Warren administration;

Protect land ownership by addressing the structures that continue to push Black farmers off of their land, including by protecting heirs’ property ownership and Native lands and addressing any mishandling of the Pigford payments;

Create real access to land and credit to open the door for a new generation of diverse farmers that reflects the diversity of our country, including by developing a land trust to put land in the hands of Black farmers and other marginalized communities, expanding access to credit, and dedicating funding for education, training, and research for Black and marginalized farmers;

Make bankruptcy equitable for Black farmers by lowering the on-farm income requirement; and

Support the mental health of Black and brown farmers and farmworkers.

This and more is possible under Elizabeth’s plan. Click here to continue reading about how a Warren administration would address discrimination and ensure equity for farmers of color.

That's great. So, no. She's never said it on stage then. Thanks. :unimpressed:
You should go to her rallies:manny:

Here's Bernie response to the same issue:

ncentivize programs -- including 4H, extension programs, or others -- to ensure diversity of age, race, gender, ability, and sexual orientation so we begin to eradicate systems and cultures that prevent fair access to agricultural land and opportunities. In 2017, 95% of all farmers accounted for were white, with black farmers reporting ownership declining at ten times the rate it did for white farmers. That’s on top of Black farmers losing 80% of their land between 1910 and 2007, in no small part due to systematic discrimination. Today only about 5% of black farmers reporting earning over $50,000, compared to 15% of white farmers.. 52% of American women farmers said they felt gender discrimination. When we are in the White House we will eradicate discrimination in agricultural land and opportunities.

I have to admit, my biggest worry about Bernie is what kind of downballot effect he'll have on other Dems

Even if they agree with his policies I can see Dems in swing districts being hesitant about associating with the whole socialist label. Hopefully antipathy toward Trump overrides that sort of thing.
It'l be awkward if a bunch of Dems are all "I support Bernie, but I'm not a socialist tho :whoa: "

Those swing districts have more people donating to Bernie than any other candidate:
Bernie Out-Raises Biden in Obama-Trump Swing Counties

Also, Hillary lost those districts. Precisely because she did not run on a platform that addressed their economic concerns:
Weaker Democratic support in Detroit, Flint made Trump stronger in Michigan
Many in Milwaukee Neighborhood Didn’t Vote — and Don’t Regret It

Bruh, with Biden I guess I’m hopeful, but the more I think about it, I get pissed off at him for not providing specific policy plans for black people when he acknowledges that black people are his base. Like these are the people you expect to save you and you have done nothing but shown them old pictures of you and Obama and said “believe me, I am for black people, ask Barrack.”

shyt, take Biden out. It’s Liz, Steyer, then Bernie. Just thinking about it now, I definitely see Biden selling out black people for “working class Americans” and asking black people to just be patient like the Democratic Party has done since forever.

Same way Obama was beholden to those black politicians and groups? Clinton? :russ:

How long have democrats been pandering to black people to either neglect or actively do harm to black people? Joe Biden especially. This is how democrates have, and will continue to weaponize identity until people wean themselves off the bullshyt.

Seems like we have gotten so used to it that when someone comes in offering actual policies that benefit us more than anybody sans the pandering, we feel left out. We been complaining about being taken for granted for the longest. We complained about the first black president not doing enough for 'us' specifically yet we still vote blue to the tune of 90% only to be used as a firewall against the racist republican base.

I’m not for or against Bernie. I think he has a lot more pros than cons, and I would gladly support him in the general election. However, this is my biggest criticism of him. Yes, all of the candidates been vague about reparations with the exception of MAW. The reason why Bernie get criticized more than Liz is because he stated he is against cash reparations. If you are against cash reparations, how could you truly be for HR40? What if cash reparations is one of the solutions the committee recommends? Liz has kept all options open, along with proposing a redline correction policy.

I will give you this. Biden has gotten a complete pass on reparations. The one time he was questioned on it he changed the subject to immigration, and the mods let him get away with it.
