why are yall all bringing up teams that would've made the playoffs pretty much each of the past 25 seasons? :dahell:

It's cool until somebody makes the playoffs at like 79-83 and knocks out a 95 win ball club. Then yall will move the goalposts back to "the regular season is too long and doesn't matter" :gucci:

yea, there was really no reason to expand past the 1 wild card team. That scenario is gonna happen sooner than later. :francis:

You mean like the 2006 Mets 97-65 got embarrassed by the 83-78 Cards:skip:

This would only happen if the 79-83 team was a division winner, which means they would have gotten in no matter what.

This argument is dumb as hell because the shyt teams that get in are always division winners in historically bad divisions since their records would never be good enough to snag a wild card, even in an expanded wild card situation.

If your argument is to get rid of divisions and just take the top six teams by record, okay, but arguing against a third wild card due to this scenario makes zero sense.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:

They only had 2 divisions in each league and 28 teams total.

In 1994 they split the divisions into 3 per league.. but they went on strike that year and there was no post season. In 1995 they had two rounds. ALDS and ALCS. And if stayed like that until they added the wild card.

And to think, 29 years ago only 4 teams made the post season.

In 1993 San Fran won 103 games and didn’t go to the playoffs.

Yeah, the Braves were in the NL West which is wild. That 1993 season was the last of that foolishness.

But that’s why folks really did celebrate when they made the playoffs. :heh:

Your counterpoint is dumb as hell as it's mathematically possible for the 3rd-best non-division winner to only have 80ish wins :gucci:

The 2014 Brewers were 82-80
The 2015 Giants were 84-78
The 2017 Rays/Angels/Royals were 80-82

All of these teams would've been in the playoffs under the current format in the past 10 years. In the same time span, only 4 teams have won 90+ games and NOT made the playoffs.

A 3rd wild card will inevitably result in some trash ass team playing in October in the near future and arguing for it just so a team that couldn't finish in the top third of its league has a shot at a title makes zero sense.

So three teams, one of which was an 84 win team, would have made it, but in that same time span, four 90+ win teams did not make it.

In other words, its a system that is more likely to include a very good 90+ win team rather than a .500-ish team (I'll say 82 or fewer wins since that's actually just above .500), and that's based on your chosen small sample size of ten years that you needed to make your argument.

Yeah, your point is stupid as fukk, like I said. :mjlol: But even assuming we have a year where there are only four good teams in either the NL or AL and a trash team gets in on the back end, that will be rarer than the seasons where a 90+ win team doesn't get in by your own tiny-ass sample size. It's a trade-off everyone but the goofs who think that things were better when most teams' seasons were over by the end of July will take.

Don't criticize my research when you've brought nothing to the conversation except your bullshyt opinion dumbass :mjlol:

And I don't give a fukk if your sorry ass squad's season is over by July, the Braves aren't most teams

More playoff games is better, who cares if a below .500 team makes the playoffs
