In hoops, with 68 teams making the tournament, there's always a handful of teams that got hot at the end that got left out, or a mid major who was 31-3 but lost their conf championship game and got left out, etc.

It was inevitable.

The biggest name brand bowls all joined into the playoff system and you're out of the playoffs. Back in the day, if you didn't make the BCS title game or the 4 team playoff, you still had a shot at a Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, etc.


Consolation bowls are now Pop Tarts Bowl or the Sun Bowl. Players have been opting out of bowls, why not the whole team? There's no title, no prestige, just a risk of further injuries.

One of the selling points of some bowls too was players getting free swag like a PS4, Fossil Watch, GoPro, etc.
Those bowls will have to start paying players money.

Those Bowl gifts became irrelevant the minute NIL was implemented. The non-CFP bowls don’t have the $ to offer a top player enough to opt in.
