It was inevitable.

The biggest name brand bowls all joined into the playoff system and you're out of the playoffs. Back in the day, if you didn't make the BCS title game or the 4 team playoff, you still had a shot at a Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, etc.

Consolation bowls are now Pop Tarts Bowl or the Sun Bowl. Players have been opting out of bowls, why not the whole team? There's no title, no prestige, just a risk of further injuries.
Hell, 5-7 Auburn who hasn’t won a bowl game since I was 19 saying they won’t take an APR invite to a bowl game :francis:

If you got dirt nikkas like that looking down on your postseason, your postseason is cooked

He roots for Mizzou. Hate and eventual letdown is in his DNA (minus his Chiefs affiliation of course). It's all love @kevin arnold #RCJH

Those Bowl gifts became irrelevant the minute NIL was implemented. The non-CFP bowls don’t have the $ to offer a top player enough to opt in.
They need to make the playoff games be home games until the final 4 teams.

Then go back and reclaim the Rose Bowl, Feista etc and give them to the teams who didn't make the playoff. Then the bowls will be somewhat meaningful again

“Meaningful” is subjective. The $ isn’t. The conferences aren’t going to punt on the money the CFP sponsors are paying across multiple years to devalue the CFP Bowl games.
