He did an interview recently where they asked him if he regretted publicly voicing his off-center views about guns/immigration down the stretch of that campaign ("hell yes we're going to take your ar15"/"border is safe, it's secure") and he said "no". Interviewer pushed back about how Republicans are willing to distance themselves from unpopular policies while privately still supporting them all for the sake of power (Trump and Project 2025) , and he still said 'no, he'd rather lose than compromise his values'.
